Title: Re: extreme gardening Post by: Blackcorn on February 18, 2010, 08:44:34 AM No date for your piece?
Title: Re: extreme gardening Post by: jwaap on February 18, 2010, 08:48:16 AM as soon as I get my music
Title: Re: extreme gardening Post by: Lazrool on February 18, 2010, 09:30:17 AM Needs more backgrounds, otherwise it's a great concept and looks good.
Title: Re: extreme gardening Post by: Davioware on February 18, 2010, 01:27:48 PM Cool. Reminds me of those minigames from Mario Party where you have to do things like this. :P
Title: Re: extreme gardening Post by: BoxedLunch on February 18, 2010, 03:27:39 PM it makes me want to garden so bad. damn you winter! :handshakeL: :outraged:
Title: Re: extreme gardening Post by: Adamski on February 18, 2010, 05:52:41 PM saw screens for this the past couple of days but only just realised what it was about having seen the video :) Must say, looks pretty darn cool :) :handthumbsupR:
:whome: Would love to see a nicer background than the simple gradient though, like a faded doodle of a garden or mansion gardens or something :) Title: Re: extreme gardening Post by: Camel on February 19, 2010, 08:23:53 AM Looks and plays very good
How have you done this ? I mean, it seems you have several "tiles", and they detect the neibourhood tile, and adapt the sprite as needed. Is it something like that ? Somehow, seems some diferent technique, as i can see very small "cuts" in there. Either way, very well done :) Might be a quite adictive game, if done right. Title: Re: extreme gardening Post by: kavs on February 19, 2010, 11:48:05 AM Looks cool, and props for using Midnight Juggernauts. :D
Title: Re: extreme gardening Post by: Michael Grand on February 19, 2010, 12:25:05 PM This reminds me of a Mario Party mini-game (they were the best part of it :)). Looks fun!
Title: Re: extreme gardening Post by: Levin on February 19, 2010, 04:16:31 PM It looks really cool, even if I agree about the background. Anyway, I'll certainly try it with my bamboo pen :handpencil::apoplectic:

IT. IS. DONE! Title: Re: extreme gardening RELEASED Post by: Sos on February 25, 2010, 02:03:32 PM Haha that was fun :) flash port it!
Title: Re: extreme gardening RELEASED Post by: Batmanifestdestiny on February 25, 2010, 03:50:46 PM Haha that was fun :) flash port it! ...Saying that is like saying "I liked your speech in English. Now, say it again, word for word, in Russian. Here's a dictionary. Get crackin'." I'll have to try this game later when I'm not "doing homework" and extremely hunry. Looks sweet! Title: Re: extreme gardening RELEASED Post by: Sos on February 25, 2010, 03:53:58 PM whatever, just make more levels :)
Title: Re: extreme gardening RELEASED Post by: Oddball on February 25, 2010, 04:20:40 PM Not played it yet as I'm on a Mac at the mo', but the video reminds me of Bonsai Barber (http://wiiware.nintendolife.com/games/wiiware/bonsai_barber) on WiiWare.
Title: Re: extreme gardening RELEASED Post by: 0rel on February 25, 2010, 04:34:01 PM Me likes. The short mini game concept works really well, truly “pick up and play”. And the graphics/presentation is nice too. What I missed a bit though (after playing the 5 first levels or so) is something more rewarding to get me "hooked" for longer somehow. The basic gameplay/goal with the fast action and medals makes it already fun to play, but maybe the interaction itself could feel more rewarding and responding... Similar to the flashing effects, and direct hit/miss reward in a shooter game. By adding different snappy cutting sounds maybe, and some other mini effects like moving leaves to the background rhythm, or when the cursor touches them... Generally movements, like small changes in color of the sky... Or maybe animated hedge shears. Another thing that could it make more fun is direct feedback I thought, like a progress bar (percentages), and more sounds/effects to indicate failure, like when cutting the wrong parts. - Just some ideas after playing for a couple of minutes... The idea to make the player create something under pressure totally appeals to me, and has lots of potentials... Sweet game!
Title: Re: extreme gardening RELEASED Post by: supershigi on February 25, 2010, 06:16:25 PM Like Oddball mentioned, the game reminds me a lot of Bonsai Barber on WiiWare (basically a bunch of anthropomorphized fruits and vegetables will ask you to trim their foliage into various shapes). This is a nice little game, the controls are intuitive and you can jump right into the game without having to go through tutorials or anything. I think with a few peripheral additions, the game could feel a lot better... simple things like pitch shifted scissor sound effects for when the leaves are cut, or having the player use an animated hedge clipper cursor. The only other thing, is that the game doesn't really feel like "extreme gardening" to me... it feels like regular gardening. But I think that could be fixed with a few superficial additions.

You are right, this game could have had way more rewarding presentation. It's just that I'm very busy at the moment and thought this high enough quality to release. I think direct feedback is not needed? The current short time often results in crazy moves messing up your thing, and the result is a surprise. Try playing with multiple people, it'll be fun. Thanks again! Never played bonsai barber, no wii here, sounds awesome. Thanks for the feedback: I had scissor sfx but it hurt my head so I just removed all sounds, and stayed with the beatboxed music. The name is more of a joke. :)Title: Re: extreme gardening RELEASED Post by: tim_the_tam on February 26, 2010, 05:44:05 PM i also agree with 0rel's and supershigi's feedback. but i think now you need to polish this game up and expand on this game. right now it feels like a minigame for a much bigger game. how about expanding the "extreme gardening" concept with other gardening task like mowing or flower planting.

Ooh, I like that idea... I bet you could come up with a bunch of fun little mini-games related to gardening. Picking weeds, throwing out insects that eat your plants, watering the flowers, etc. Title: Re: extreme gardening RELEASED Post by: Blackcorn on February 28, 2010, 03:46:19 AM I just had five minutes to test your game, and the first thing that strikes me is the background "music". That's maybe a question of taste, but I can't bear it at all so I put the sound off after the fifth level.
Otherwise, I didn't play Bonsai Barber on Wii so this is probably my first experience of this kind in game, and I think I enjoy it! Keep up the good work! (I will play it later in more depth). |
