Hey guys, remember that really cool looking project calling LIMBO? Back in 2007?

Well, they just sent out their first email newsletter, stating that it's coming out for XBLA this summer! I've included the message below:

Hi,

My name is Dino Patti, and I'm the CEO of the company now known as PLAYDEAD. We are the developers of LIMBO, an original game idea by Arnt Jensen, who produced and released the concept video you may have seen on our site in 2006. Arnt and I started planning and producing the game together right after that, and, being only two developers, we didn’t have time to answer the thousands of emails we received from fans and publishers.

So, first of all, I thank you for your patience, some of you signed up as early as the beginning of 2007. The reason for the "radio silence" is that we have been very busy producing the game and didn't want to spam your inbox with irrelevant information.

It has been a long journey for us, which I won't cover in more detail here. I'll just let you know that the reason things have taken so long is that we started from scratch (Arnt started working on the concept two and a half years before we met) and decided to make LIMBO independently after talks with several publishers. Todayour team counts 8 in addition to some freelancers, at our maximum we were a total of 16.

Now for the real reason why I'm writing you...

LIMBO is launching on consoles this year with a summer launch on XBLA!

From now on I'll keep you posted regularly, so expect updated content from the game very soon. Screenshots, movies, you name it...

(We'll also be at the IGF Pavillion at GDC if you are interested in seeing a small part of the game)

XBLA only? Or will there be a PC release too? Please say there will be a PC release too, otherrwise I won't be able to buy and play this :concerned:

It's a pity when developers don't release on the computer (or sometimes they do but much later).

You have time to headline REDDER, and you have time mention Limbo nailed some awards, but still not a decent headline mention of Limbo's new progress and now Joystiq has done a front page article before you guys?

Seriously, what's up with that? Limbo seems like a great game and it gets no coverage on Tigsource at all - even though it snatched some awards and could be one of the better indie games this summer.

Is there any reason why Limbo is getting neglected?

I played it at GDC, the visuals and atmosphere are FANTASTIC.

I saw someone play it, game looks fuckin' ridicuful. Which is a mix between ridiculous and beautiful. Radtastic. Madaculous. Gorgeouzing. Amazerful. You get the point.

Seriously, TIGS, I'm kinda disappointed. I found out about this game from you guys, and now you totally shun it. *queues up Linkin Park and finds a nice corner*

I don't think the world is going to come crumbling down because Tigs hasn't covered limbo (again) yet. I'm sure everyone who cares already knows, and it would be kinda redundant to post it now that everyone else has. Maybe when it's released a front page post would be useful.

What about those of us that weren't on the mailing list? And I normally don't read Joystiq or Kotaku, just for example. TIGSource is an indie game news site, and I'm pretty sure we were all over the Pixel Youtube video and fapping before it got headlined here, but it still got posted, along with every other CS/La-Mulana/Fez update. Just because "everyone who cares" may already know about it, it still gets front page time if it's deemed important. I'm making a ruckus because I think LIMBO is important. And if you disagree, welcome to the Internet, where opinions are everywhere.

Why don't you simply ask one of the news editors why it was ignored or suggest that it should get more recognition. Instantly making a ruckus only make you look like an ass.

I think that what Shinji is trying to do with this thread here. I don't think that this can be seen as 'instantly making a ruckus', it's just weird that certain games don't seem to get exposure on Tigsource anymore and it's only fair to ask why that happens.

Is it because Limbo isn't indie enough? Is it because it was covered before? In my opinion, anything that could help the indie scene getting a little more attention (and Limbo is one of those games that people that are usually not interested in indie games would give a try) helps.

Cave Story and other Remakes are constantly being mentioned on Tigsource. I also thought it was weird that Derek didn't feature his own Spelunky HD stuff on the site, even though it's important enough to get some attention.

Is it just an arbitrary selection process or is there a reason behind this?

I kept expecting to see something get written Derek & Co so I've held off. I've no qualms writing something up, just given the nature of the game, the awards it won, I figured a staffer here would have been over it. *Boots up Pages*

I think it's simply a fact that most of the editors in TIGS are fairly informal (they get no monies for it), and Derek is a busy man, I feel. Maybe he should find someone to be a full-time editor?

I got to play it for a little bit at the very end of the last day at GDC.  Looks beautiful.  Outstanding animations. Moving the main character felt good (for the one or two minutes I had with it).
I'll definitely buy it the day it comes out.

This game kinda rose from the grave. I remembered the teaser from o so long ago but I'll be damned if I ever thought it would actually see the light of day.

Gosh, with all these great games coming out on XBLA this summer its going to be really awesome.

Here's to hoping that they can keep that level of atmosphere up throughout the whole game.
