Title: Synopsis Quest Deluxe, English translation Post by: BC on April 02, 2010, 02:18:54 PM Hi ya'll! I mostly lurk and browse around the site, availing myself of indie game news, but I just finished up collaborating on a project with the indie Japanese developer Skipmore.
My day job is as a technical translator working from Japanese to English, and I enjoyed playing Skipmore's Synopsis Quest in the original language. I had some free time and perceived an interest among players wanting to read the dialogue, so I approached him about localizing it. There seemed to be a lot of interest over at the Indie Games weblog back in January, but people were just blasting through the puzzles and missing the rest, so now you can get the whole story. We spent the last month or so communicating in between our regular working schedules and putting together an English translation that captures the humor of the original. Link: http://www.skipmore.com/freegames/synopsis/synopsis.html (http://imgur.com/CBsD0.png) His games are originally designed for cell phones, so if you have some difficulty getting a response out of your key presses, try increasing the repeat interval on your keyboard. That might help. I think the humor of the original came out well, and people seem to be enjoying it. Let me know if you have any issues. At this point I am basically Skipmore's volunteer liaison with the English-speaking world. Where should I file this? I don't stand to gain anything out of this arrangement, as I merely translated the thing so that others could enjoy it in the way I already was. I suppose Skipmore might stand to "benefit" from increased exposure, but it's not as if money has changed hands or anything. There are only so many places one can mention this kind of thing, so I thought this was a suitable location. Edit: I guess I don't know anything about typical forum syntax or how to come across as legit! I added more info to the original post. I played it the other day and really enjoyed the game, I probably wouldn't have been able to enjoy it before.

If you enjoyed this, stay tuned, as he is working on the spiritual successor to this game that will function as a one-world/one-screen adventure with zooming and scaling and so on, as opposed to discrete quests. Looks like this: (http://skipmore.img.jugem.jp/20100331_540361.gif) It, too, will be in English... maybe around summer time for a launch. Title: Re: Synopsis Quest Deluxe, English translation Post by: moi on April 03, 2010, 04:08:32 AM yeah there is a hint in one of the earlier levels. And you have to do it at the right time.
