Title: Audia - Freeform musical tool/playground Post by: Davioware on October 09, 2010, 10:28:43 AM I released this a while ago, but never made a topic on tigs, so here goes.
Audia is a freeform musical playground. You create note bars and dot spawners. Sounds are generated when a dot reflects off of a bar. Music can be composed by setting up complex systems of bars, spawners, and flow control gates. Song files can be saved, but to record the actual audio you will currently need to use an external program like Audacity. (http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1010927/AudiaSS1.png) In addition: -you can use any .wav files as intruments, just put them into the "pack#" folder; Eg. "Pack2", and select the appropriate pack for the note bar. -Hold F1 for help. Mouse-overing the various components in the editor will tell you how to use them. The music it produces is kind of dark and creepy, and the graphics are pretty cool. Not sure how good of a song you can make with it, but I haven't tried very hard yet.
Title: Re: Audia - Freeform musical tool/playground Post by: RandyO on October 09, 2010, 01:05:28 PM this is really cool, and totally creepy with the default sound pack. the shaking visuals increase the weird mood.
awesome though. the one thing bugging me is the handle gizmo is really hard to grab. I was pixel hunting to move things at times and when I rotate then the thing rotates away from my mouse and then I have to move my mouse again. I am totally disturbing myself with the noises on in the background right now. curious. Title: Re: Audia - Freeform musical tool/playground Post by: C.A. Silbereisen on October 09, 2010, 03:49:59 PM As far as generative music software goes, this is a lot of fun to play around with. I was suprised by how flexible it is, and once you learn to organize things in musically meaningful ways, it becomes much more than just a "toy". I like how adding just one element can drastically change the music. Neat visuals too.
The controls are a bit awkward though. Moving stuff around can be pretty finicky and I feel a simple popup list menu when you right-click on an element would be more intuitive than all those key combinations we have at the moment. Put it in your saves directory.

Title: Re: Audia - Freeform musical tool/playground Post by: N'graugt on October 12, 2010, 05:48:24 AM Oh hey, this is pretty sick. I like this a fair amount. Kinda makes my eyes all weird after a while, but I figure that's part of the charm, right? Right.
Something bothers me however. Sometimes I have issues where I'll try to get a succession of balls to bounce about, but the balls ignore the little walls and shoot offscreen like Superman with the runs. Still, good fun. Might play it more in a sec. Title: Re: Audia - Freeform musical tool/playground Post by: SuperGork on October 12, 2010, 06:14:31 PM This is so cool! I could play around in this forever. It's kind of inspiring to think about the kind of game worlds that fit the music this can make.
