Unzip the .zip file to any folder of your choice, revealing a folder and a .jar file. 4. Run the program. a. On most systems, you should be able to simply double-click the .jar file b. If that doesn't work, try below: Manual start: 1. Open a terminal. Windows: Press WinKey+R, type in "cmd", and press enter. Linux: Press Alt+F2, type in "gnome-terminal", and press enter (for GNOME). If you don't use GNOME, consult help and support. Mac: Open the Terminal (from Applications?) I don't have a mac so... 2. Type in "cd /path/to/jar/file" and press enter. eg: "cd C:\Users\***\Downloads\McCloneFull", "cd /home/***/Downloads/McCloneFull" 3. Type in "java -jar McCloneOb.jar" Sorry if this is confusing. Any plans for where you're going with it? It's generally considered good manners, in this particular community, to post in the "Introduce Yourself" (http://"http://forums.tigsource.com/index.php?topic=45.0;topicseen") thread. Title: Re: My Minecraft Clone Post by: I_smell on December 14, 2010, 07:39:15 PM What made you want to do this?
Title: Re: My Minecraft Clone Post by: pokepal101 on December 14, 2010, 08:05:25 PM @oyog
Yeah. It's in a very early stage. As for the Introduce Yourself thing, I'm new here (as you can probably tell), so I don't know how things work here. @I_smell I wanted to do this because I've tried to make quite a few games, but they never went anywhere, so I wanted to make a game and actually take it somewhere. Title: Re: My Minecraft Clone Post by: davidp on December 15, 2010, 05:29:25 AM and where would that be?
as far as i see it, you're making a clone of a very successful game that's still in development and already looks and feels x times better than your current build (no offense) and has xyxy players playing and paying for it. i don't really see this going anywhere, unless you take a twist in some totally different direction and move away from minecraft "premise". i mean if i had to playtest/play minecraft clone (which is now way behind the original game) i wouldnt, i'd just go and enjoy minecraft. if you catch my drift.. no hard feelings, i'm just bothered with "I wanted to make a game and actually take it somewhere" line. Title: Re: My Minecraft Clone Post by: Chromanoid on December 15, 2010, 06:37:52 AM After some moar research :): In the early stages of minecraft Notch even referred to his game as "Infiniminer clone". So we all should recognize: Cloning games can lead to great new games. Imitation often is a key to success (look at the f2p browsergame market). I think the minecraft man made so much money he can cope with imitators... @pokepal101: how about implementing Liero (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KE2XtQaMb5I) like gameplay. Title: Re: My Minecraft Clone Post by: Outcast Orange on December 15, 2010, 07:30:47 AM This looks just like Cloud Scream.
You can check out my blog for more ideas, and I'd be happy to discuss the water physics with you. What sort of game environment are you going to create? Is it going to be semi-realistic or fantasy? What sort of things will inhabit this new world? Title: Re: My Minecraft Clone Post by: pokepal101 on December 15, 2010, 04:15:41 PM ...and already looks and feels x times better than your current build (no offense)... Please take into account the following:1. Minecraft has been worked on for over a year now (work started on May 17, 2009) I started work on this 2-3 weeks ago. 2. Minecraft now has several people working on it (although it was a one man job in the start) 3. Notch doesn't have a 5 year old computer that has a c***py hard disk (I think) ...unless you take a twist in some totally different direction and move away from minecraft... Well, as a matter-of-fact, I do intend to move away from Minecraft. As for everyone else, thankyou for (trying, at the least) to be positive, and arguing my case while I was in bed. What sort of things will inhabit this new world? Wow. I just checked out Cloud Scream, and it looks really good. The game will be semi-realistic, so only semi-realistic things will inhabit the world. About the water physics, how to you want to communicate? (PM me). Title: Re: My Minecraft Clone Post by: Outcast Orange on December 15, 2010, 04:46:23 PM Don't worry about me too much.
I was really just wondering how you were going to pull it off. The water physics are something that always interested me. I found it very difficult to get mine anything even remotely like real running water. In any case, this looks pretty polished from what I've seen, and I'd be pleased to try this out as it complex-ifies. How much procedural generation do you use so far? Title: Re: My Minecraft Clone Post by: pokepal101 on December 15, 2010, 04:53:22 PM Don't worry about me too much. About the water physics, mine is really bad, lags up the system if uncontrolled (my fountain screenshot reduced the fps to about 1, and is nowhere as realistic as the real world.I was really just wondering how you were going to pull it off. About the procedural generation, the terrain is 100% generated by the diamond square algorithm. I intend everything else about the terrain to be generated randomly too. Title: Re: My Minecraft Clone Post by: tim-bo-jay on December 15, 2010, 06:22:11 PM Hey, I gotta say I'm curious to see where this goes, like Cloud Scream before it I'm always interested by games that play off the core concept of Minecraft but try their own thing, hell it's games that work like that which push a genera forward after all (I mean without "Doom Clones" we'd never have seen the FPS of today).
Do you have a plan for where you hope to take the game in the long run or just building the basic world then seeing where it takes you? Title: Re: My Minecraft Clone Post by: pokepal101 on December 15, 2010, 06:45:43 PM Do you have a plan for where you hope to take the game in the long run or just building the basic world then seeing where it takes you? Well, I don't have any long-term plans, so I guess I'm just going with the flow...Title: Re: My Minecraft Clone Post by: pokepal101 on December 15, 2010, 06:48:18 PM ;D We have now officially entered Survival Test phase! No proper items or whatnot yet, but you do have to "mine" your own stuff. ;D
Download in the downloads section or here: http://www.mediafire.com/?g8v04hb8ahglnds Title: Re: My Minecraft Clone Post by: tim-bo-jay on December 16, 2010, 09:42:39 AM As I only have a Netbook currently (fingers crossed for a fancy xmas present!) I thought I'd test just how compatible the game is with a Netbook. Alas it wont run, I get to the settings screen, pick my resolution and so on, then boot the actual game and get a black window that closes the second it opens. I'm running Windows XP and the latest update of Java.
Title: Re: My Minecraft Clone Post by: Doktor_Q on December 16, 2010, 10:09:41 AM Interesting so far, but first off I would recommend fix the gravity and jump system. It feels spastic, to the point where I usually don't know if I'm moving or the block in front of me suddenly grew.
Title: Re: My Minecraft Clone Post by: pokepal101 on December 16, 2010, 04:35:42 PM @tim-bo-jay
Try running this in a terminal and paste the output. (see the manual start section) @Kikaru The physics isn't a priority at the moment, but I'll definitely look into improving it. Random note: Why am I not getting any new replies?... Oh, there's a page 2... Title: Re: My Minecraft Clone Post by: TheSpaceMan on December 16, 2010, 05:36:53 PM This might sound wierd, but I have recently gone in thoughts about a Roguelike with a minecraftis renderer.

Sorry, don't understand that... I think he wants is a blocky Everscrolls with perma death on, or a 3d render DF,adventure mode. Title: Re: My Minecraft Clone Post by: TheSpaceMan on December 17, 2010, 04:38:32 AM This might sound wierd, but I have recently gone in thoughts about a Roguelike with a minecraftish renderer. Sorry, don't understand that... I think he wants is a blocky Everscrolls with perma death on, or a 3d render DF,adventure mode. A 3D Block DF, Adventuremode comes quite close. But it doesn't have to be a Fantasy setting or anything. Title: Re: My Minecraft Clone Post by: tim-bo-jay on December 17, 2010, 04:41:25 PM one thing I would like to see which I felt was sadly missing from the awesome randomly generated worlds of MC is ruins and odd landmarks, randomly generated of course, but exploration is a key element of this style of game and finding something weird and almost alien in your journey you can tell friends about is a good way to create a talking point within your game, weirdly this has come about in MC in my experience via the glitches in the multiplayer servers which cause weird bugs like huge chunks of land missing and so on.
Title: Re: My Minecraft Clone Post by: pokepal101 on December 20, 2010, 05:12:16 PM Update: I just created a Tumblr (just like Notch!) to post about the game (just like Notch!).
Hurrah! Title: Re: My Minecraft Clone Post by: kitheif on December 20, 2010, 06:32:02 PM 40% In development already?
Title: Re: My Minecraft Clone Post by: pokepal101 on December 20, 2010, 10:27:36 PM Well, 40% to version 0.1.
That would be: a lot better physics that this, a working inventory, working item thingies, and crafting, or whatever I'll do to provide that functionality. A month ago, this was just a grass block floating in the middle of nowhere. Title: Re: My Minecraft Clone Post by: bcmania on September 06, 2012, 03:47:44 PM wow that is amazing u should make it opensource though and less cartoony i jst photograph textures
