Title: Post your loot!
Post by: phubans on December 26, 2010, 12:23:48 AM
What did you get for Christmas, etc? I made out like a bandit this year and it was probably my biggest Christmas ever in terms of what I got:

Hardware:
Black Wii Hardware Bundle (console, 1 Wiimote Plus, 1 Nunchuk, 2 games)
+1 Wiimote Plus
+2 Nunchuks
+1 Classic Controller

And the following 16 games, ranked by preference:

God Tier:
New Super Mario Bros Wii

Great Tier:
Goldeneye 007 Wii
Silent Hill: Shattered Memories

Good Tier:
Dokapon Kingdom (Would be on great tier if it weren't for blatantly cheating AI)
Wii Sports (Came with bundle)
A Boy and His Blob

Okay Tier:
Wii Sports Resort (Came with bundle)
Excite Bots: Trick Racing

Unopened:
Donkey Kong Country Returns (Prediction: Great Tier)
Wario Land: Shake It! (Prediction: Good Tier)
Metroid: Other M (Prediction: Good Tier)
Muramasa: The Demon Blade (Prediction: Okay Tier)

WiiWare:
Cave Story (Great Tier)
Bomberman Blast (Good Tier)
Final Fantasy IV: The After Years (Good Tier)
Dr. Mario Online RX (Okay Tier)

I'd post pics, but a) I left my camera adapter in California and b) I turned on my camera this morning to discover its LCD screen was busted :(

EDIT: Pics posted from my shitty camera phone :D

Anyways, what an awesome Christmas in terms of loot! It's so great to step into the current generation of console gaming again after almost 10 years.

Okay, now that my excited rant is over, tell us what you got and post pics :D

Let's see...

- 1TB external hard drive
- Rechargeable batteries for what I may need (They're Kodak, so they should work.)
- 4GB flash drive for school
- Some Columbia brand jacket I didn't like because it would replace my tattered grey jacket.
- Gamepad-to-USB adapter. It has some uses.

...That's about it. Good junk, if I do say so myself.

I got an Remote Controll Airplane. The first page of the instruction maunual says in big bold letters: "This is not a Toy" I am skeptical.

I have flown it a few times. It is very forgiving. I have put it into the ground nose first twice and had a dozen cartwheel landings, yet it is none the worse for wear. It probably comes from being incredibaly light. It will almost fly backward in a stiff wind.

Well, I do have a decent paying gig right now, but I probably still make less than most artists in the game industry. Still, what I get paid is a lot for a po' boy like me. I still wear the same raggedy clothes with holes in them and I live in San Francisco, which is really expensive. Granted, I did buy most of that stuff for myself, my folks ended up giving me enough cash to cover most of the expenses. Most of the games I bought were on sale for around $20 each, which is why I ended up with so many ;)

Death: The High Cost of Living (Graphic Novel)
Good Omens, by Terry Pratchett

A: Fantastic taste in books. Good Omens is great, believe me. And you know it's co-authored by Neil Gaiman, no?

B: Necronomicon as in the collection of Lovecraft's short stories, or a story entitled Necronomicon?

I was pretty sure he was referring to the actual volume of arcane dark knowledge.

  • A Playstation 3 with Uncharted 2, God of War 3 and Demon's Souls;
  • Black Clouds and Silver Linings - Dream Theater.
It's not my favourite record, but I'm not one to whine. It's Dream fucking Theater, after all.

A: Thank you, I really enjoy Terry Pratchett's work. I did know that Neil Gaiman was a part of the process, but I did not know it was such a big role.

B: The Necronomicon is actually written by someone other than Lovecraft. It is the author's interpretation of what the fictional Necronomicon in Lovecraft's stories would be like. Oddly enough, there is no named author, besides the borrowed name of Abdul Alhazred (Who wrote the Necronomicon in Lovecraft's stories). It is copyright 1977, a good 40 years after Lovecraft's death. So, it is not a collection of stories from Lovecraft, nor an unrelated story.

Sorry, I tend to ramble on a bit sometimes.

Around $900 (AU) in money and gift cards, a Sega Master System and 22 games (my gf got me it off Ebay), a bottle of bourbon, some t-shirts and chocolates. Think that's about it.
