Huh, interesting report.  I live in California's foot hills so I probably won't get much, if any, flooding.  However I attend school in California's central valley.

I've heard the valley (California's central valley and Sacramento areas) used to flood rather regularly.  Levies and dams were built to help control the flooding.  Now there are lots of people living in the valley.  I wouldn't be surprised if an exceptional storm(s) could cause some dam or levy failures and flood out hundreds of thousands (or millions) of valley residents.  Ack.

In California's Sierra mountains we already have anywhere from 120% to 200%+ of our typical peak snow pack (which usually peaks out in April).  So I'm doubtful that droughts will occur, but if the reservoirs have trouble containing the water perhaps the levies and rivers will be more full.

Yeah, Sacramento was all swampland before they cleared it out for human inhabitance.

I'm used to Texas/Oklahoma so the storms out here seem really wussy.

Hmm, the comments on that article are disturbing... Everything happening in the world right now is very indicative of an "end times" scenario  :concerned:

Well if the Bible has any say in the matter at all, it won't be a flood that destroys humanity but a person who does evil miracles.  And even then it's not eternal destruction, just temporary. :shrug2:

Yeah, and Yellowstone is due for an eruption that will obliterate 1/3 of the US, a volcano off the coast of Africa can cause a landslide that will send a gigantic tidal wave that will devastate the entire east coast, scientists have spotted a number of asteroids or comets that have the potential to smack into the Earth within the next few years, and a star can go supernova any second a few hundred million years ago, projecting deadly gamma rays directly where the Earth will be today and set the entire atmosphere on fire.

Scientists fear-mongering for research money isn't a new thing.  ::)

It is my understanding that some publishers really over do it with citations.  I mean it is good (and ethical) to cite one's sources, but I don't think it is that difficult to get peoples names on a paper.  It doesn't often take that many people (30+) to write a paper.  Perhaps the authors of the paper were trying to get as many names as, well, possible on their paper to make it look more legit/impressive.
