Hello tigsource,

This is starry, a rail shooter that loops :)
We are 2 humans and this is our first game.

The goal of the game is to shoot everything! and try to make the best score.
You can download the demo here :

New Demo Download 02/01
Windows : http://indefini.org/media/starry/demo/starry_demo_win_1.0.1.zip (http://indefini.org/media/starry/demo/starry_demo_win.zip)
Linux 32 bits : http://indefini.org/media/starry/demo/starry_demo_linux32_1.0.1.tar.bz2 (http://indefini.org/media/starry/demo/starry_demo_linux32.tar.bz2)
Linux 64 bits : http://indefini.org/media/starry/demo/starry_demo_linux64_1.0.1.tar.bz2 (http://indefini.org/media/starry/demo/starry_demo_linux64.tar.bz2)

Controls:
If you can play with a joypad please do so! You can set your own controls in the controls screen. Otherwise default controls are :
- arrows for moving, space for shooting lasers!, 's' and 'd' for dashing, 'w' and 'e' to lean the ship.
- press 'c' for entering a locking phase, lock some enemies and release the key to launch the missiles!

The more you lock, the more points you earn.

The demo has been tested on some windows computers but on fewer linux ones.
But it should at least work on Arch Linux, Linux Mint and Ubuntu 10.10.
If it doesn't work please reach me at chris at indefini.org, or just post here :)
I'm sorry I don't have a mac computer to port it (edit : but it might be ported by a friend)

We also started working on a level editor for starry. It looks like this :

I definitely enjoyed the visuals, I hope you plan on sticking with the wireframe look. Are you planning on doing anything to separate the gameplay more from games like Starfox?

Thank you :)
Well I don't think I will change the behavior of the ship.
Actually I just wanted a ship that is viewed from behind (third person) and with smooth movements...
And then, I wanted it to shoot lasers and missiles. I think the locking system makes it a bit different from the gameplay in starfox and more like rez... if I can say so :)

Honestly I don't like rail shooters! But this one is really cool :) I like the visuals and style, my only sugestion it that you could put some story elements in the game.
Congratulations! :) I'll keep tracking this game for updates!

Thank you saint11,
Actually, at first the game was a lot different... in my mind there was a big story where you've got to escape from a world, and then go to planets, travel the universe, look for something etc... but after a few months, I had to be realistic because it would have take too much time to do it alone. That's when my friend came in and we decided to make it more simple and more abstract.

here is how it looked before :

of course the game is not like that anymore :)
