Title: Sword & Sworcery #2 on iPad AppStore Post by: Peevish on March 24, 2011, 06:53:05 AM Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP has been live for just under 11 hours, and it's #2 on the iPad AppStore.
Days like this I wish I had an iPad. I do need an MP3 player, might save up for an iPod Touch. Played it? Love it? Opinions? Do share. Game is shrouded in mystery, so let's avoid spoilers. Wonder if they will consider an android port?

Title: Re: Sword & Sworcery #2 on iPad AppStore Post by: WafflePilot on March 24, 2011, 08:25:15 AM Spent about 30mins with it yesterday, really neat game just going around and exploring is a blast... i feel it's what iPad games really should be rather then alot of the unfinished 2-3 month hackjobs that endup in the store
Title: Re: Sword & Sworcery #2 on iPad AppStore Post by: PlayMeTape on March 24, 2011, 08:43:16 AM Loved it so far. I like that it's divided into sessions and encourages the player to not run through them all in one sitting.
It has however reminded me of why larger teams can be valuable. I haven't played through to the end but it doesn't seem like it's very long which is understandable and great in it's own way. But if a large team focused on developing an experience similar to this one it could turn out incredible. I love that for the first time in a really long time I've thought "I wonder when I will get to return to that place" while playing. But when I stop playing I'm reminded that the experience is not very long so I know I will probably get to return maybe once or twice and it won't be long until next time. Which kind of takes away from it. Each session seems to have one really epic moment and playing through those gave me chills and makes me wonder why modern games haven't developed more in this direction. It's hard to explain what playing it is like and I don't want to spoil anything but it truly is a great experience. Use any means available to play it! Title: Re: Sword & Sworcery #2 on iPad AppStore Post by: Supermini_man on March 24, 2011, 10:47:28 AM Yes, it will be released in April.
Title: Re: Sword & Sworcery #2 on iPad AppStore Post by: C.A. Silbereisen on March 24, 2011, 10:54:30 AM Awesome, can't wait!
I still know very little about the game itself, but the attractive visuals and long development time (for an Appstore game) have me intrigued. Title: Re: Sword & Sworcery #2 on iPad AppStore Post by: Golds on March 24, 2011, 11:56:16 AM it's actually only hit #3 in the US app store so far. :wtf:
Title: Re: Sword & Sworcery #2 on iPad AppStore Post by: PGGB on March 24, 2011, 12:45:14 PM I fell in love with Superbrothers and Jim Guthrie the day I saw this video (http://vimeo.com/1662439).

Title: Re: Sword & Sworcery #2 on iPad AppStore Post by: vorpaldinger on March 24, 2011, 01:52:40 PM I'm really enjoying it. The music, especially, is great. I am at a point in the game where I feel a little shut down though, I'm at a point where I've been told that I have to wait for another moon phase to continue on my quest, and I wish they had provided some side games so that I could have something to check out when I get the urge to play and it's still not the right time. That's my only gripe so far. It's unique, and I think it's a pretty awesome way to experience what is essentially an interactive album.

Which kind of takes away from it. There are going to be updates and additions, so says the Twitter. Sounds like they'll be free additions, though I don't know if they've come out and said so. Title: Re: Sword & Sworcery #2 on iPad AppStore Post by: Andy Wolff on March 24, 2011, 06:23:38 PM I am very glad to hear that this is doing well and (mostly) living up to expectations. If I had an iPad I would be all over this, as I've been very intrigued by everything I've seen and heard of it.
The dialogue/writing I've seen does look pretty bad, but people have been quoting it like mad on twitter, so I guess they like it. Title: Re: Sword & Sworcery #2 on iPad AppStore Post by: Rob Lach on March 24, 2011, 07:18:05 PM According to my twitter stream, everyone has an ipad and is playing this game except me. D:
Title: Re: Sword & Sworcery #2 on iPad AppStore Post by: :) on March 24, 2011, 08:50:02 PM I kind of want to never play this game, because I know it will let me down.
I'd rather live my life thinking its a great game. From what little bits I've seen of the gameplay it probably isn't all that great. Ignorance is helpful if you like bliss. Title: Re: Sword & Sworcery #2 on iPad AppStore Post by: Andy Wolff on March 24, 2011, 10:29:02 PM Upon further exposure I've learned that people aren't really quoting the game on their own accord; The game apparently has an option to spam you with "TWEET THIS?" messages after you do cool stuff. They've been tracking the results of this on the amusingly named but not otherwise extensively amusing crowdscorcery (http://crowdsworcery.com/). Interesting stuff
Title: Re: Sword & Sworcery #2 on iPad AppStore Post by: mcc on March 25, 2011, 12:34:43 AM Oh, this is transcendent.
I got this a couple days ago but only got the chance to do session 1 this evening. My expectations were quite high and they were still blown away in several ways. Is the main character female? D: Yeah this is how I feel. What the heck. I can't afford a giant light screen that can't make calls, only tiny ones that can. Title: Re: Sword & Sworcery #2 on iPad AppStore Post by: vorpaldinger on March 25, 2011, 09:57:51 AM The tweeting is voluntary- you can retweet pithy things the game says. People just got overeager and used it too much. I was guilty of it too. The characters you meet in the game have a sort of in-game twitter system so you can keep track of stuff they are thinking as well.
The main character *is* a woman, although it's very downplayed. Also, it's going to be on the iPhone as well in a month or so. They have to do testing. Verizon is selling Wifi-only iPads for 300 bucks now. It's worth it as a media player and a vnc (screen sharing) device. I only ever touch my actual computer when I need to edit video or use photoshop now. |
