I know maybe almost all the roguelike fans here may already know this game but Dweller (or Dungeon Dweller for long) is too awesome to haven't a thread here on tig.
It's basically your average roguelike, but it's for your mobile phone! An it supports a lot of devices and resolutions, and also it let you bind your buttons and it's really easy to control (for a mobile game)

It cames also with both an ascii and a graphical version.

Well, that just killed any doubt I could have had about the casual gaming industry. ???

My Sony Ericsson W880i is not suported :'(, will try it anyway !!!

It works barely on me Sony Ericsson W200i ??? ... but playable with some effort :) . The only thing that totally sucks are the keys, i'm probably more accustomed to play with a keyboard. Well, it's average, but still a playable mobile roguelike.

Works perfect on W880i, you can use MIDP1 or 2 !!! The keys are something you need to get used too, it's not easy on an mobile phone but to play rogulikes on the phone for free is pure awesomeness  :-* :-* :-*.

If there's one thing more portables/phones need is roguelikes. Best methodical time-wasters when you're on a bus or train or trip.

It works OK on my 6275i. I just wish the screen were more legible. The PocketPC version of Nethack lets you play with larger icons instead of characters, which lets me play the game at arms' length.

yeah, i have it too, but on the Gp2x, it's great :D
But Dweller is more on the go, i don't always stick around with the gp2x on my pocket.

@ravuya, download the graphical version, the ascii one is good only if your mobile phone have a big screen ;)

the good thing is that roguelikes are turn-based so it's still playable also with the mobile phone crappiest buttons

Ah nice. I will try this when I get my new phone this week. Are there any other indy games for mobiles that are worth to check out?

Thanks to a friend of mine, Zaxxon, who ported j2me to the gp2x, many mobile games are playable on the gp2x too, so if you have a gp2x you can play Dweller on a bigger screen and have a better gaming experience http://archive.gp2x.de/cgi-bin/cfiles.cgi?0,0,0,0,8,2554
(the gp2x is an handheld console powered by a linux kernel full of homebrews, portings and emulators, and also some indie gems)

Also there's a version of Powder, ported by parkydr and a NetHack conversion too ;)

Sorry but I had to give this thread a much needed bump.  If anybody hasn't checked this game out yet or last checked it out back in 08 puuh puh paleeeeeze check it out again as it's come a loooooong way in just the last year or so.  Bjorn the developer releases new builds like every week or so and is very good with listening to his community of play testers.

Played it a while back, but really didn't like the controls. For a game you play as long as a roguelike, I think controls are quite important.

And it seems rather generic, not a lot of things to do. I'd rather read a devlog or something.

 :outraged: well, check it out again.  I assure you the game got much better than when you last played it.

The biggest improvements since 2008 come in a form of new
branches of the dungeon with optional themed levels, addition
of pets and allies, new quests aside from the main one which
drives the story and heavily reworked and rebalanced old items
plus quite a lot of new ones, including premade artifacts.
Did I mention new NPCs, spells and tons of user-made rooms?

Also, controls can be re-defined way easier now.
There is obviously a version for Android devices too.

oh WOW guys!!! It's quite a time I don't visit tigsource and even more I don't play Dweller, as my old nokia phone is like a relic nowadays and I got an iphone, that has a lot of very good roguelikes too (100 Rogues the best of the bunch).

So nice to see that Dweller made such a long way and it's on android too. Too bad there's no iOS version of it :(
