So who here has the creature creator? How does it work? How well can you create what you want with it?

I'm gonna wait for the free trial. Not because I'm a cheap bastard but rather because I don't think I'll have time before that to try it out :P My little finger tells me that they released the creature editor alone to flesh out some bugs before the big game is released. I ain't sure if my intuiton is right or not but it's still pretty cool that we'll be able to get a preview of the game. That sporepedia is a great idea :)

I tried the Creature Editor at MacWorld.  It was really, really fun to play with.  Very intuitive.

More likely they're releasing the editor early and as a standalone product because they know that it will sell a million billion copies on its own (and get people trained for the full version). ;)

Here's hoping that it won't require pixel-shader support.

Otherwise, I might be forced to buy a new computer soon. :'(

Needs more:
- Pokemans
- Sgt. Frog
- phalluses

Still hyped for the game though.

Ah yeah true. That would be a good strategy :)

There's just no way I'll be able to run this  :'(

Man those are some low system requirements for a game being released today IMO. If reading those makes you go "FUCK!" then it really is time to do a modest upgrade :)

Ok, since I'm waiting for the free version ...

Someone make a Cave Story ripoff.  :cavestory: :cavestory: :cavestory:

How about a race of Mimigas? I will also be creating a race of Longcats as soon as I get my grubby hands on the creator.

YES.

Also, wow, talk about maximizing revenue streams.  Not only are they selling the creature editor ahead of time for extra bucks, they're marketing custom merch with your own creature on it.  Which, okay, yay personalized junk, but I could make that myself by sending a .jpg to Cafepress.

I am completely in love with this game, but there's no way in heck I'm paying for the creature editor now just to pay for the same functionality again later when the game comes out.  I don't know why they didn't just make it 100% Free like they did with The Sims toolset.

Edit: Wait, I do know why - shareholders.  Never mind.  ::)

Too bad you don't live in the UK - we're getting the cost of the creature editor deducted from the price of the full game if we preorder.

This is something I'm almost, almost considering to pirate just to see if it would run. Then I'd buy it if it's cheap enough, and runs.

::) I hate when people post that sort of thing. As if the free creature editor won't give you some idea of whether the game would run or not, and as if there won't be a demo at some point.

Title: Re: Sporepedia!
Post by: Hideous on June 12, 2008, 07:09:01 AM
No, I mean the creature editor. It's actually the part of the game I was most interested in. Meh, if there'sa demo of it I'll get that instead.

Atleast I'm being honest :P

I can't run it, and my computer is just 2-3 years old. I'm not gonna spend 100 bucks on a 'cheap' gfx card just to play some game. Damn you, pixelshaders. And RAM.

I'm betting that over 50% of all creatures populating the spore universe will have (or will be) massive genitals (or tits).

So, no clothes or hair yet?

Can't wait for it. Can't wait for it. Can't wait for it.

I'm not particularly looking forward to the game itself, actually, but I just absolutely fucking love character creators. I used to play a lot with that stand-alone CoH character creator, it was great!

Man am I glad that I just got a new laptop before this came out. I would be seriously miffed if I couldn't play this game.

Now if some developer could just make an RPG that uses a similar editor to make weird, inhuman things to play as.....

The Elder Scrolls: Spore?

Heh, I knew someone would say that. No, I am thinking of something that is much more extensive then just being able to manipulate the dimensions of the face. I want to be able to make a four-armed mutant if I want to lol...

I've seen a DS version listed in various places. Anyone know what that version will be? I'm assuming it's not the same as the PC version, but is it a cut down version, or something completely different just trading on the name?
