Title: Franchise: Hex-based tactics game, now with Internet play Post by: Average Software on July 18, 2011, 11:22:39 AM I've gotten my hex tactics game, Franchise, far enough along to support Internet play, and I'd like to see some people hopefully getting a few games going to test it out.
Franchise is about the inevitable global conflict between fast-food chains, and features over 30 units and structures to play about with. Here are some in-development screen shots ripped from elsewhere: (http://www.averagesoftware.org/images/shot_thumb.png) (http://www.averagesoftware.org/images/shot.png) (http://www.averagesoftware.org/images/shot2_thumb.png) (http://www.averagesoftware.org/images/shot2.png) (http://www.averagesoftware.org/images/shot3_thumb.png) (http://www.averagesoftware.org/images/shot3.png) (http://www.averagesoftware.org/images/shot4_thumb.png) (http://www.averagesoftware.org/images/shot4.png) (http://www.averagesoftware.org/images/shot6_thumb.png) (http://www.averagesoftware.org/images/shot6.png) (http://www.averagesoftware.org/images/shot7_thumb.png) (http://www.averagesoftware.org/images/shot7.png) The game is still rather ugly right now, we have 3D unit models in the works to replace the flat tiles. Everything is playable at this point however. I'm particularly interested in the Internet play. I'm running the server out of my apartment right now, and my connection has been known to be flaky, but should be adequate. About the game: There is a brief tutorial campaign that explains some aspects of the game, and should be enough to get you started. The O'Donnelly's campaign currently contains three sample 1 player missions that you can play to get a feel for things. The game has two major modes of play, headquartered and non-headquartered. On maps in which you possess a franchise headquarters, you can build new units and just spend money in general. If your franchise headquarters is destroyed, you are eliminated from the game. On maps without a headquarters, the game becomes a straight tactical exercise, you have the units you start with, and that's it. The multiplayer maps that I have included are generally headquartered games. I have one in there (Grand Melee) with is completely non-headquartered, and an interesting one called Incursion in which two players are headquartered and the third is not. As a warning, this is a fairly long game. It is not intended to be a pick-up and play, casual game. Battles will likely take many hours to complete, especially on the larger maps. The game supports the ability to save and resume Internet games, so this shouldn't be too big of a deal. Keyboard shortcuts are fully customizable, and there are several options for controlling the mouse. Right-dragging will also scroll the map about. The download includes a configuration program for setting various windowing and graphics options, I suggest you run it first. The game downloads are here: Linux x86 (http://www.averagesoftware.org/files/franchise.tar.gz) Mac OS X, Intel 64 bit (http://www.averagesoftware.org/files/franchise.dmg) Windows (http://www.averagesoftware.org/files/franchise.zip) Have fun, and thanks for testing! "....wage slave builds a structure it dies. Keep this mind" instead of "Keep this in mind" . Can't wait till I can play some more.
