Title: TIGSource PnP Games Night? Post by: Tasoth on June 23, 2008, 05:12:54 PM So the idea hit me in the IRC chat: Why not have a TIG Source Pnp games night? When I brought it up, Reetva and someone else were all for it, as well as Annabelle.
How would we do this? One of two ways. OpenRPG (http://www.openrpg.com/index.php?page=features). A python proggie designed for this purpose. It's customizable with plugins if we feel the need for making them. Down side of it is I have no clue how to work it as of yet, we need someone to host a server for it and those who wish to use it need to download it. It does have scads of functions built in, such as a white board, a map, dice rolling and various other commands. ProjectJJ chat server (http://pjj.cc). Browser based PHP chats designed for roleplaying. I can sign up for a chat for free, which can be made public or private. Bunch of commands built, such as dice, Private messaging, ignoring, banning, etc. Supports avatars, profiles linked in the avatar bar, colored text. I'm never GM'd/DM'd a game, so a volunteer for holding that would be nice if we do do this. I can also list game systems I own if need be. So what say you TIGgers? Title: Re: TIGSource PnP Games Night? Post by: William Broom on June 23, 2008, 05:24:27 PM I would certainly play, though I've never done anything of the sort before, and I don't have any special equipment like books or whatever.
Title: Re: TIGSource PnP Games Night? Post by: Xotes on June 23, 2008, 05:27:16 PM Ah, OpenRPG. I had great fun when Sappho (DF forums) hosted a DF-themed GURPS game. At least, I think it was GURPS.
Title: Re: TIGSource PnP Games Night? Post by: Tasoth on June 23, 2008, 05:29:35 PM I would certainly play, though I've never done anything of the sort before, and I don't have any special equipment like books or whatever. It shouldn't be a problem not owning the books. Those mainly come into play when you're running it. The whole character creation process is something the GM helps in and most systems are easy to pick up once you start rolling. Title: Re: TIGSource PnP Games Night? Post by: reetva on June 23, 2008, 06:06:45 PM OpenRPG sounds best. Alas, I've never been a very good GM, so that's not for me. Oh, and I would like to play either Burning Wheel/Empires* or Exalted, if at all possible.
*I've never played those two, but I've read the rulebook/extension for the Burning Wheel, so I can tell that it's good. Title: Re: TIGSource PnP Games Night? Post by: team_q on June 23, 2008, 08:07:06 PM I would love to run/take part in a "My life with Master" game!
Title: Re: TIGSource PnP Games Night? Post by: Xion on June 23, 2008, 08:53:07 PM nvm Also, I'm in. Title: Re: TIGSource PnP Games Night? Post by: Don Andy on June 24, 2008, 12:45:55 AM I'd give it a go (if it happens to be a "night" where I actually am online) although I never, ever properly played a PnP game before. Mainly because there was nobody around to do it with, and playing a PnP game with yourself is extremely boring.
I never knew there are online substitues for it, though. So if you guys don't mind a total newcomer, I'd give it a go. Title: Re: TIGSource PnP Games Night? Post by: reetva on June 24, 2008, 01:04:58 AM I would love to run/take part in a "My life with Master" game! I think that that sounds good. I believe that the current situation is "If nobody else volunteers to GM, we'll let Quiggan do it," but don't quote me on that. Title: Re: TIGSource PnP Games Night? Post by: shinygerbil on June 24, 2008, 03:16:15 AM I'd be up for some experimentation
Title: Re: TIGSource PnP Games Night? Post by: Caio on June 24, 2008, 03:37:51 AM I'm someone else.
Meaning I'm absolutely in :-* Title: Re: TIGSource PnP Games Night? Post by: Aik on June 25, 2008, 03:52:34 AM If anyone's running any hippie indie Forgeish type games (such as, for instance, My Life With Master), I would love to join you :p I'm too cheap/poor to buy the rulebooks myself though.
Title: Re: TIGSource PnP Games Night? Post by: hroon on June 25, 2008, 08:16:32 AM I would love to try. Anyone ever played that cthulhu PnP? I bought a rulebook once but never really managed to play it..
Title: Re: TIGSource PnP Games Night? Post by: skaldicpoet9 on June 25, 2008, 12:42:32 PM Sweet!
I was actually just thinking to myself a few days ago that I should try to look fo somewhere to play some old-school PnP action online. Sadly where I live there aren't many people into that sort of thing. Anyways, I am definitely down for this  Title: Re: TIGSource PnP Games Night? Post by: Tasoth on June 25, 2008, 04:35:12 PM List of those willing to participate:
Tasoth Reetva Quiggan Chutup Xion Biggerfish Shinygerbil Kao Aik Hroon Skaldicpoet Addendum: Annabelle Cyber95 This is a big ol' list, so we need to get times that everyone can play. Secondly, the next major step is to figure out what we're going to use to play. I'm impartial as to whether OpenRPG or the php chat are used, and there is also the option of an IRC channel if we can find a dice rolling script or RPG bot. We also need to find out what we're going to play. If Quiggan is running it, we can shoot for My Life with Master. I don't know who else has corebooks for systems aside from myself and I'd be comfortable running a one shot Don't Rest Your Head or All Flesh Must be Eaten game until I feel comfortable running a bigger campaign. So, in summation, we need votes for the following three things: Program used, Game being played and time for play. Impartial to program used, up for any game and I can play Friday or Saturday from about 6 to 8pm EST until I crash. Title: Re: TIGSource PnP Games Night? Post by: Caio on June 25, 2008, 05:00:45 PM We should use a system that can either be downloaded for free (warezed or legal) or very easily taught.
I'll be available every weekday from about 17GMT to 23GMT starting on the 9th (maybe a little more on the weekends). I can usually catch game night, so I don't think it will be a problem. Call my agent if you have any further questions. :gentleman: Title: Re: TIGSource PnP Games Night? Post by: skaldicpoet9 on June 25, 2008, 08:44:07 PM I like the look of OpenRPG (http://www.openrpg.com/). As for the game I think that My Life with Master sounds pretty interesting. There is also Bedlam (http://www.realms.org.uk/bedlam/), I haven't had the chance to play it yet but it sounds pretty fun, more of a storytelling game though. I'm down fo anything though...
Title: Re: TIGSource PnP Games Night? Post by: Annabelle Kennedy on June 25, 2008, 08:47:42 PM I'd participate, but you'd mentioned me in the first post. but yes, definitely.. ive always kind of wondered about those types of games.
Title: Re: TIGSource PnP Games Night? Post by: cyber95 on June 25, 2008, 08:53:19 PM Is it too late to get in on this?
Title: Re: TIGSource PnP Games Night? Post by: Tasoth on June 26, 2008, 12:34:17 PM Over at the Witchcraft site (http://edenstudios.net/witchcraft/) the corebook is free to download. While this isn't All Flesh Must be Eaten, it is the same dice engine. My life with master looks like it's easy to pick up and play without the corebook.
Also, I do have the Call of Cthulhu corebook floating around somewhere. Title: Re: TIGSource PnP Games Night? Post by: Gnarf on June 26, 2008, 12:59:58 PM Don't you really have to play that Dragon Hunters thing? That thing that that guy posted about in that thread about Dragon Hunters?
I would like to play, but having time for it at the same time that other people also have time for it seems the opposite of likely. Unlikely, even. Title: Re: TIGSource PnP Games Night? Post by: skaldicpoet9 on June 26, 2008, 09:17:14 PM Oh yeah, I forgot to mention...
I can pretty much play anytime except 4 a.m. to 12 p.m.(CST) Title: Re: TIGSource PnP Games Night? Post by: Miya on June 26, 2008, 09:57:16 PM It's more fun when you are in the same basement drinking mtn dew and eating fritos.
Title: Re: TIGSource PnP Games Night? Post by: reetva on June 28, 2008, 05:31:46 AM I can play anytime (with occasional exceptions that I will probably give you a day's notice about) from four o'clock to nine o'clock Mountain Standard Time.
Title: Re: TIGSource PnP Games Night? Post by: Tasoth on June 28, 2008, 11:01:55 PM Alright my little ones, it seems game night is go for this Thursday around 8pm Est. The game will be Don't Rest Your Head, of which BlademasterBobo and Reetva have already completed a sheet. I'm looking for two-three more people to be my subjects.
Come and dig me up in the IRC channel or PM me. End date for joining will be Wednesday so I can get an inkling of a session plan together for thursday. For those of you who don't get to participate, you can still lurk in the OpenRPG server while the game is played, getting to watch what it is all about. I promise nothing spectacular. Title: Re: TIGSource PnP Games Night? Post by: skaldicpoet9 on June 29, 2008, 03:20:46 PM Awesome :)
I'm going to play through the demo tonight or tomorrow to get acquainted with the game mechanics. See you guys on Thursday  Title: Re: TIGSource PnP Games Night? Post by: Corpus on June 30, 2008, 07:16:39 AM I wouldn't mind playing, but pretty soon I'll be going away and then I won't be back until August. Maybe if it works well you can do another one in August, hey?
Title: Re: TIGSource PnP Games Night? Post by: Tasoth on June 30, 2008, 03:13:25 PM I wouldn't mind playing, but pretty soon I'll be going away and then I won't be back until August. Maybe if it works well you can do another one in August, hey? I'll be trying to run these as often as I can, even continuing on into the fall/spring college semester. But the latter is a bit away and I'd rather see how things turn out by then. Title: Re: TIGSource PnP Games Night? Post by: Lazer on June 30, 2008, 05:43:04 PM Just for consideration you guys, maptool (http://rptools.net/doku.php?id=maptool:intro) works way better than openrpg in my opinion, less stuff to download too. It's fickle about port forwarding for the host though.
Title: Re: TIGSource PnP Games Night? Post by: Xion on June 30, 2008, 05:55:43 PM I'm out
Title: Re: TIGSource PnP Games Night? Post by: Inane on June 30, 2008, 06:14:29 PM I'm camping out
Title: Re: TIGSource PnP Games Night? Post by: Gnarf on July 02, 2008, 01:26:28 PM Don't you really have to play that Dragon Hunters thing? That thing that that guy posted about in that thread about Dragon Hunters? Oh wait, I'm an idiot. What with how very indie it was, I figured I'd read about it on this forum. But it's like way over there (http://rampantgames.com/community/viewtopic.php?t=566&sid=51a0bddcc7104ca1d24272e03689fe88).Now then. Title: Re: TIGSource PnP Games Night? Post by: Tasoth on July 03, 2008, 03:50:09 PM Going to postpone the game until next week, see if I can dig up more players for it.
Title: Re: TIGSource PnP Games Night? Post by: skaldicpoet9 on July 03, 2008, 04:15:37 PM Going to postpone the game until next week, see if I can dig up more players for it. It's all good we can try to set something up next week. Maybe we can coerce some of the people on IRC to join in :D Title: Re: TIGSource PnP Games Night? Post by: hroon on July 03, 2008, 08:58:21 PM I have more free time next week - so count me in... on Thursday again?
Title: Re: TIGSource PnP Games Night? Post by: skaldicpoet9 on July 03, 2008, 09:18:32 PM Yeah, I think so. Tasoth should be on here sometime and let everyone know.
I think that maybe we should try to start a poll to see the best time that everyone is available at. That way we can get a good game with a decent amount of people going. Personally I am stoked about Don't Rest Your Head  Title: Re: TIGSource PnP Games Night? Post by: Tasoth on July 06, 2008, 07:59:31 PM Yeah, this Thursday at 8. I'm still looking for one more person, so perhaps I'll try and sell the setting with some homebrewed fiction.
[Bardsvoice] You would wish for sleep, but it would be wasted. Sleep has became something that no longer applied to you a long time ago, back before everything went insane. Back when what kept you up mattered, could be remembered. Before you heard the Click. It was the sound of reality putting the gun to the back of your head and flicking the safety off. Back before you knew of the Mad City. It started off subtly at first, a window where it wasn't before, showing an interior that didn't fit the building or a vista of rooftops from the ground level, a door in an improbable place, or an alley that seemingly sprung up overnight, unnatural shapes moving about inside. And then you decided to go through, to see why the other side was different. And the nightmares were waiting. You met others like you and they told you the rules. You can't sleep or the nightmares will come, attracted to you like lions to the kill. Keep your sanity or you'll become one of the nightmares. In the Mad City or the City Slumbering, never drop your guard because they'll be there. No respite, no sanctuary, will you find a way back to being asleep or will you be stuck as one of the Awake, doomed to death or a fate much worse? [/bardsvoice] Mechanically, the game is simple: D6s all around. There are no stats, and aside from a few descriptive sentences and talents, your character is only different from the others based on how you respond as them That's right, you have to roleplay. As for characters, we have: Blademaster Bobo, playing an addict and who is secretly a master brawler and mind controller. Reetva, choosing a fear of sleep to be keeping him up and a poisonous touch. SkaldicPoet, an ex-navy seal, Judo Master and telekinetic. Altogether, they've created a really dark, sorrowful cast from the details in the characters, but not every one needs to play a character like that. An olympic track and field runner who got swallowed up during their hurdles competition is just as feasible as the others. Title: Re: TIGSource PnP Games Night? Post by: skaldicpoet9 on July 06, 2008, 09:47:53 PM Seriously, this is going to be fucking awesome.
And there is free beer too.... ..ok, not really. but, um, we could roleplay like we're drinking beer ;) Title: Re: TIGSource PnP Games Night? Post by: Tasoth on July 10, 2008, 09:28:25 AM Game will be up tonight around 8 on the OpenRPG DevII server under the name of District 13 for those of you who want to watch. It'll be moderated, so posting won't happen unless the moderator gives you the ability.
Title: Re: TIGSource PnP Games Night? Post by: skaldicpoet9 on July 11, 2008, 12:56:07 AM Sorry I couldn't jump on, my computer had a major meltdown last night and I had to stay up trying to fix the problem. >:(
Is everyone up for another round next week sometime? btw how did everything go this week? *edit: I just got your message, unfortunately I can't do it Friday because I am having a garage sale all weekend. Can we set it up for sometime next week? (anytime would be better then this weekend) Title: Re: TIGSource PnP Games Night? Post by: Tasoth on July 24, 2008, 08:19:05 PM Sorry for the bump. Some updates.
We've yet to kick a game off. Every thursday comes around and not enough players. Kinda makes me sad. That being said, I'm going to try for Friday Nights at 8pm EST. If you'd be interested in actually playing, either shoot me a PM or track me down in the IRC chat. One day, we will get this done. Title: Re: TIGSource PnP Games Night? Post by: policedanceclub on July 25, 2008, 12:54:33 AM Id love to play, but living on the other side of the world, the time thing is kind of nasty.
D: Title: Re: TIGSource PnP Games Night? Post by: Zest on July 25, 2008, 05:52:38 AM Sounds cool; count me in. A friend of mine told me about a game called Wushu (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wushu_(role-playing_game)), that sounds like it'd be fun.
Title: Re: TIGSource PnP Games Night? Post by: William Broom on July 25, 2008, 06:29:30 AM Well, I got me OpenRPG and I'll be on at 8pm tomorrow, I'll probably only be a spectator if it goes ahead though.
