Title: Offering my services and hoping for criticism!
Post by: Nate_G on September 26, 2011, 07:28:06 AM
Hi chaps,

I've been a lurker for a long time, but now that I've got a bit of work online and am ready to start looking for projects to work on I figured I should introduce myself and show you lot what I've been up to and hopefully get some constructive criticism.

I've been busy working on 5 tracks which I would love you to listen to here: www.icefishingep.tk (http://www.icefishingep.tk). Without getting bogged down in genre labels I guess it's dark ambient; the whole point here is that I really want to contribute music to a project, and so this EP has been a direct attempt to create music that might suit that purpose.

I use some unconventional techniques to produce this stuff, it's almost entirely my own recordings made with microphones I hand-build, with the exception of some synthetic strings.

Looking forward to becoming an active member here, indie gaming's a passion of mine right alongside music and sound design.

Cheers all!

Nate

Wow Nate, I really like it. It's unusual and I wouldn't want to hear it at work as it's kind of disturbing ;) But it would be very nice for a dark Diablo style game. Mystery thriller and the like.

I also like the tagline "A noise-based project featuring flushed toilets, crunched lettuces, bags of money, tube trains, woks, bridges and treadmills." Hehe, very innovative.

In my experience it's not easy to make a track feel as a whole piece. Sometimes, elements, instruments, stick out too much, not well mixed or not well balanced. But your tracks really are one piece and have a great, dense atmosphere. And they're weird. Great job.

Thanks a lot Flint, really appreciate the comments! Weird and disturbing is what I'm aiming for, so cheers :D

I've just yesterday finished my second collection of tracks, so if anyone's interested they're here: http://icefishing.bandcamp.com/album/icefishing-ii (http://icefishing.bandcamp.com/album/icefishing-ii)
You can download it for free in lossless format or whatever if you'd like.

I've got plans for a survival-horror game in the far future. You'll be hearing from me!

Really nice stuff Nate, I can see it being very suspenseful while being used in a horror game.

Whoa, that is some really creepy stuff. I like it. What did you use to make it?

Thanks Fission and UWBW.

95% of the sounds are my own recordings, many of them made with contact mics I actually hand-built. It's all sequenced in Logic, and there's a little bit of Logic string synths in there. All the effects are either from Native Instruments Guitar Rig or Logic's own plugins.
