Title: Jared Does Comics
Post by: Jared C on October 25, 2011, 08:48:39 PM
Hey peeps, you probably weren't wondering why I stopped posting art on TIGs, but I did. That's because I'm working on this thing right here:

Here's a linky:
(http://saddlestitchbound.com/comics/2011-10-18-Ch1Cover.png) (http://saddlestitchbound.com/)

Because I was sick of so many game project failing due to my lack of coding skills and poor internet collaboration luck, I took matter into my own hands! I decided that if I'm going to do something on my own, a comic would be the easiest thing.

I figure this thread will be a good place to post all my progress, and I am totally open to creative criticism and any advice you have to give, aswell.

Currently I'm uploading two pages a week, one Tuesday and one on Friday. I already have a lot of pages stockpiled, so it's just a matter of doing lots of page thumbnails at a time and relaxing for a while before another burst of inking. My plan is to eventually print these out on paper and hand-stitch them, but for now my goal is to just finish the first story arc.

Holy smokes! Were these done in Illustrator?

Landshark@ D'aw, thanks! <3 I love that smiley, haha.

Player 3@ Nope, all done in Photoshop. Sometimes I'll sketch pages and scan them in or ink them, but most of the time I just sketch it in PS. The images are big enough so that I can print them out when the time comes.

Hmmm, I should probably start logging my progress now.

Week 1
-Pages 1-5 aswell as cover sketched and inked
-Cover and page 1 posted to website

Wow so that's done raster style not vector?  It looks amazing.

It's vector but rasterized. There are paths and some vector tools in Photoshop too.

hm? It doesn't look vector at all to me.

Dustin@ & Rivon@ I just go in with the brush tool to do all the linework. Then I bounding box all the areas I want to gradient on a separate layer, simple as that. I do rotate the canvas a lot, though, which might explain why you're mistaking it for vector graphics?

Week 2
-Inked pages 6-7... I got stuck on page 8, it is just a panel nightmare. So far I have no idea how I'm going to fix it. I might just skip it and go back to it once the posting date draws nearer.
-Posted pages 2 and 3 to the website, so far in keeping with my schedule.
-Reached over 100 separate views. Yeah!

Well, I meant, you could do it with the PS vector tools...

Hey guys, sorry about forgetting about this thread! The website is very much alive and kicking, updating as regularly scheduled. It's been tough meeting all of the deadlines with work and school, but I've been stock-piling pages so I can take breaks to work on more important matters. Right now I have 8 pages up including the cover, although I now have a few more ready to be posted.

Anyway, I've been learning a lot about process and layout and stuff! Right now I've just been planning more of the major plot which will be revealed in a couple of pages. Other than those two things, I've been spending a lot of time on twitter trying to network with much cooler comic peeps. It hasn't been uh... successful, exactly. This talking shit is tough. >:T

Here's my twitter in case ya'll care: twitter.com/JaredEmCohen (http://twitter.com/JaredEmCohen)

Here's another link in case one wasn't enough. :shrug2:

Now I wish The GIMP had vector tools. Nay, a better pen tool to do stuff like this with.

I also thought they were vector graphics at first but apparently it's just brush tool.

Sorry, I have been procrastinating updating this thread. @__@

TIME SKIP:
WEEK 6
-Got my comic on the webcomics list: http://www.thewebcomiclist.com/p/20608/Schlubbymoose (http://www.thewebcomiclist.com/p/20608/Schlubbymoose)
-Getting about 160 views everyday now. Is that like a new record or something? It has to be.
-Updating as regularly scheduled still. I have yet to miss a date!

Also, another link for the lazy:
