Title: How would you shade this? Post by: InkBlotBunny on November 19, 2011, 02:58:46 PM How would you shade this "slime" monster if the only light source was a flash light being shone directly at it's face?

Hill on November 19, 2011, 07:36:12 PM I would make some purple jello, sculpt it, shine a flashlight at it, take some reference pictures, analyze the defraction and... Who am I kidding I am just hungry for jello.

If he was more dome shaped I wouldn't have a problem but the inset of his mouth keeps throwing me off... Dose this look believable? Post by: ANtY on November 20, 2011, 03:02:33 AM Try to add some more jelly-alike highlights. Jellies shine!

how is it? since it's some jello monster, might as well gave it that strong highlight since its surface is probably wet Title: Re: How would you shade this? Post by: Core Xii on November 20, 2011, 05:35:34 AM (http://images.mylot.com/userImages/images/postphotos/2473036.jpg)
Specular highlights on the side of the light source, reflected light on the inside on the opposite side. Title: Re: How would you shade this? I'm gonna have to keep it around for future references. :) Title: Re: How would you shade this? Post by: HernanZh on November 20, 2011, 04:15:20 PM Here's my take on this:
Slimes and jellies are usually translucent. Don't shade them like normal objects, but make them darker where the slime is thicker - the center: (http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3851720/Misc/slime1.png) Add some more shading: (http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3851720/Misc/slime2.png) And finally, add the reflections. But because they're so slimy, light reflections can come from some more unexpected angles. So it's ok to put some on the other side: (http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3851720/Misc/slime3.png) I hope that helps. Title: Re: How would you shade this? You should consider putting together some tutorials or something. :addicted: |
