I've been a bit in hiatus here, but I would like to take this return to extend an open invitation to people of this board to come check out a communication website some friends and I put together.

It's called Cloudibl!

What it is, is an open communication platform that strives to integrate all forms of online communication in order to improve the ways in with people connect and interact with each other.

Right now it's in what I guess you could call a beta stage, so all the features are not necessarily there, but everything that IS there should be considered a permanent feature.

What we need from you is simple: just go over, browse, join up, and just use the site and give us some feedback. Currently it has some integration with Twitter, so please make use of that if you have it, it would be cool to see it in action!

Even if you don't check it out, a shoutout over twitter would be super cool. We've put a help of a lot of work into this thing, but now we need users to check it out and test it.


Note to Derek or any mods: Please let me know if this is a conflict of interest with this site. I don't assume it will be, but y'know. We're small, and in no way trying to steal users. We're just a couple programmers/artists who are passionate about what we do.

Checked. It's an interesting concept, but we'll see who all uses this obscure hipster (used in a joking manner) social network.

i don't know about other, but it's kinda look alike with twitter(except for those global communication and some other). but still...kinda curious to know how it works.

Right now it looks a bit like a mashup of Twitter and other sites, as is expected based on its functionality. But I assure you, if you try it out you'll see it's far more robust.

Just request a key from the main page and browse it a bit. Even if you don't post anything, you can at least maybe get a feel for what we're going for.

So which one of ya'll handle the beta keys?

Um, that's my buddy mostly. I don't know if he's set up automatic approval yet, but have you tried requesting an invite from the far right tab?

Just this morning. It makes me wonder if you actually have someone checking for beta requests for most of the time.

Yeah, the approval has to be done manually, and only one guy has access to those right now. He just messaged me to let me know he's approved all the TIGs requests thus far, and he'll try and get me the ability to approve as well to avoid this problem in the future. I assure you the beta request is not broken or being ignored. The guy heading everything has been working crazy hours and has weird sleep patterns as a result. Ahhhh, the life of a coder, amirite?

I just remembered why I don't have an account on any social networking site: I don't care about the inane posts of other people.

Could someone explain to me what this means? I'm genuinely curious.

I'm currently trying it. Looks nice, but I definitely would recommend a step to step guide (ala Twitter when you tweet for the first time) when you can, since there's a lot to digest.

It's a fancy way to say 'social networking site'.

@Ashkin: If you dislike social media, but like forums, then please please please, use the site that way. Make a topic (aka. a CLOUD) and write your thoughts or ask for some responses (i.e. DROPLETS)

Please note the the end goal (although not quite there yet obviously) is for it to be a communication platform, meaning you will have the ability to ignore those people. It's not entirely implemented yet, but you will have the ability to hide, customize and tailor-make your experience.

I personally use it more like I would a forum. There is the capacity to write out entire posts like a blog or message board. It just so happens that our user base is small and very diverse in terms of interests. We're working on ways to go a step beyond social media, so your feedback (such as this) is totally crucial.


EDIT: Chevy Ray: All this means is that we looked at the current state of online communication, and felt it was very disjointed. People using outdated, fragmented message boards (our example of this is the GameFAQs forum). Lots of cross posting, double-posting, tweeting vs. status updates, tumblr vs. wordpress etc etc. We thought we would try to make something more streamlined and accessible to all of those demographics. We want to try and push the collective knowledge of the internet, and all informal communication that exists out there, and put it in one easy to reach place.

Again, unlike facebook, the focus is not on the friends you have or the people you know, it's about WHAT you know and enjoy. You could very well use Cloudibl to communicate with nothing but strangers (much like you would in a chatroom or message board). If all you want to do is look at posts about #videogames, you can.

This site is still in its infancy, and you need to help us grow it into something you can enjoy. If there's something you wish was there, mention it and we'll definitely read it and take care.

As it stands, we're just 3 guys with a vision for something we could really enjoy.

One last question: Is it possible to change the Moniker or display name of the sort?

Player 3: Yes! Once you are registered logged in, if you hover over the top left icon (your avatar) and go to the "Manage your Profile" label, you can change everything about your profile: avatar,display picture, moniker, real name (should you choose to post it), location etc.

Important to note: should you choose to use your real name, this will not be visible until you have approved the connection ("friend","follower", whatever). Therefore, you can be as up front or anonymous as you would choose. The nickname you set (regardless of your login moniker) is what the general public users will see, and can be changed at any time.


Also, one other thing I would like to point you towards: The Atmosphere.

On the second button on the left (the broadcast symbol) there is an option for using "The Atmosphere", a fully anonymous board. Here you can post anonymously without attaching your name/moniker to it. You are assigned a random avatar and username and are free to form discussions there. Think something is too contentious? Do you prefer open topics without fear of being thumbed for your opinions? This is the place for it.

Leonelc: No, it's just that there's no automatic process for us to accept invites right now, and only one guy has admin privileges to do so. So unless he's checking for your invite when you ask for it, then it'll be delayed. He's going to set me up so I can take over that for people from TIGs, so just bear with us for now.
