Title: Globules Post by: True Valhalla on January 16, 2012, 10:45:41 PM Globules (http://bit.ly/Globules)
'Globules' is a unique action-based strategy game, with abstract visuals, fast combat and lots of explosions. This game has been ported to Mac by Dangerous Dave (https://twitter.com/PerilousPete)...the original game is the one of the top 5 highest rated strategy games on YoYoGames.com, has been played over 50,000 times worldwide, and was featured on a magazine cover disk. The game is a bit old, so it is a little rough around the edges, but if this port goes well we may develop a sequel in the future :) You can get 'Globules' on the Mac store right now! This game is absolutely begging to be ported to the iPad. If two players were able to sit opposite each other and each controls one half of the iPad, you have something really cool on your hands.
Most of my criticism isn't about the game itself, but its presentation. Like you said, it's rough: - I'd prefer a nice-looking how-to-play screen over opening up a readme. - The AI options are confusing on the first run, since I have no idea how they'd affect things without having seen the game in action. A simple Easy/Medium/Hard would be much more approachable. I'm not sure I'd change those options much even after having played a few times. - On my first run, I neglected to read through the readme and just started the game. The first reaction was mass confusion as the AI player filled his board up but I pretty quickly figured most things out. The powers still confused me-- I had no idea what they were or how they happened, I just knew every so often red waves would kill half my stuff. Before the second game I hit up the readme and learned the hotkeys and the powers, and proceeded to wreck house. - Needs a pause. That stuff aside though, the core of the game is really cool. I find myself wanting to play it again, which is a really good sign! And I REEEEALLY want to play this head to head against another person on an iPad. If we make a sequel, it will be a lot more user friendly and accessible, and importantly - more polished.
