Title: Build. Shoot. Survive. Post by: Bones on March 19, 2012, 12:20:40 PM Inspired by Jwaap's game fflood (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yQgoz-vS9rg).
Possible name - Attack of the Mutant Termites! Graphics will be changed. Here is a short gameplay video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3-kdMWJQrbU) (http://www.imgjoe.com/x/shooting.png) (http://www.imgjoe.com/x/wallsopo.png) (http://www.imgjoe.com/x/walls1.png) (http://www.imgjoe.com/x/turrethqh.png) The enemy unit will break through the walls, your bullets also damage the walls as well. Your never safe. Title: Re: Build. Shoot. Survive. Post by: Franklins Ghost on March 19, 2012, 07:20:28 PM Interesting gameplay really like the way you strategise by creating walls and barriers but then when you shoot you have to be careful or you'll create gaping holes. Seems to work really well. Can see myself playing quick games whenver I get bored and feel like destroying stuff.
Do you have any idea what direction you'll take the graphics? Title: Re: Build. Shoot. Survive. Post by: Jay Tholen on March 19, 2012, 07:33:06 PM Oh man, I love how well the concept seems to work in that video. Solid! My only advice is to take the build/shoot mechanic to it's limits. Maybe there could be different types of walls of varying strengths. So much you could do here! Good luck. ;D

Plus i like that too.Title: Re: Build. Shoot. Survive. Post by: Destral on March 19, 2012, 10:55:20 PM Looks interesting! Have you considered the possibility of the walls actually being 4x4 blocks with each of the smaller blocks getting destroyed individually by the player and enemies? That might make for interesting 'debris' that makes it harder to place future blocks if the smaller wall blocks prevent you from placing new 4x4 blocks over them.

Glad the idea is liked being that it's so simple I thought it was going to go unnoticed. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Rnv_PUdhzI (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Rnv_PUdhzI) Here's a new youtube video, shows the door object I'm trying to work on. Basically the door is just an object that disappears when you touch it and re-appears when you get off of it as long as there are no enemies on top of the tile. @Franklin Yea I've got to work on a wave system to give the player a bit of building time. It's fun to have to build on the go, but you can't always build when enemies are covering up an area. @Jay Thanks! I'm trying to keep it super simple, but I do have an idea to allow upgrading of the players weapon and build items. @Ashkin Ilu too <3 @Destral I was considering going down in size, but I didn't like it when I did. I find 32x32 to be easier to manage, smaller blocks would just let the player create layers of walls around his base. You already can't build if an enemy is in the tile so that makes it hard to place blocks on the go. You can also right-click to salvage tiles for like 25% of their value. I've now made it so the room is infinite, you can move anywhere now. Title: Re: Build. Shoot. Survive.
