Title: The best JRPG ever
Post by: paste on April 17, 2012, 06:45:58 AM
You haven't wasted enough time today:

Play Parameter http://nekogames.jp/g.html?gid=PRM

The black boxes are missions. Click them to perform them. Don't forget to mouseover the numbers that pop out because that's your money and EXP.

If you get stuck try buying a key.

Goodbye, last two hours of my life. I hardly knew ye.

I couldn't find the letter "K" for the last treasure. I got one treasure for making the blue bar across the top turn light blue, but I have no idea how I managed that.

It was fun until the end when you have to grind for money to upgrade stuff. The very definition of a "Time Waster", but I enjoyed it.

The Get a Giant Sword concept was brilliant, but the grind towards the end of Ginormo Sword killed it for me. I would have preferred smarter AI that took fewer hits to kill and an upgrade system that didn't rely on grinding for money to get the good items.

3D Dot Game Heroes managed the same concept with a lot less tedium.

Took me 39 minutes if we're counting the 9999hp boss (http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7106/6942168106_30bb62018b_b.jpg)
Everything maxed (http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5118/7087984775_2a2479eea0_b.jpg)

Achievements:
  • Level 40 -> lottery
  • Collecting all the coloured letters - > ATKx2
  • Filling up the combo bar -> $200x lvl
  • Beating the final boss -> RCVx2
  • Either filling combo bar again, getting a certain amount of money or clicking missions a certain number of times -> Life+20
  • Either maxing all the upgrades or clearing every square (except bonus bosses) -> ACT+20

the final boss was super easy for me, the ATKx2 boss was a pain in the balls though.

it should be noted that my two hours included two playthroughs and talking about it in irc for a while. in other news, you have balls?

Oh, you do that by achieving MAXIMAM COMBO

(essentially money chaining, keep collecting money without stopping)

I did it but couldnt get all the letters. Must have let two of em disappear at one point.

Also I was mad lucky with the casino tile, I got *** three times in a row (it gives you a bunch of 800$). If you click really fast I think you have a chance to get the same pattern you just had or something, because theres no way I got that from actual chance.

Title: Re: The best JRPG ever
Post by: Zecks on April 19, 2012, 12:35:55 PM
i got a lot of the letters multiple times

Title: Re: The best JRPG ever
Post by: SirNiko on April 19, 2012, 02:07:50 PM
Letters seem to be totally random. If you click on the "Mission" tiles after you finish them sometimes letters pop out. I got a lot of letters multiple times, some of them maybe a dozen times.

I think the roulette really is random. I'd just click as fast as I could and generally I'd score a triple asterisk or triple dollar often enough to accumulate money quickly. I even got triple sevens twice, but it's not as much money and you'd hope for it to be.

That game was utterly pointless, yet still pretty cool. So basically, yeah, it's solitaire.

i map my mouse button into my joypad, and make it auto click so i can win the roulette. the result is really random, but you can actually win the roulette by clicking it at the exact time though. and...what's that supa secrit boss? copyright guy?

Tidus is super lame.

The only interesting characters are phantom lancer/ and Auron.

Underwater soccer? What? Does everyone in this game have gills or something?
Have you ever tried to exert yourself strenuously underwater before without breathing for awhile? You'll need air sooner than later.

How does the ball move so fast underwater without just coming to a standstill from y'know...trying to move underwater? Has Square ever experienced how stuff moves underwater?

Whats with the super lame sphere puzzles in the temples?

The last boss is a colorful sphere.
It's a sphere with acrylic paint splattered all over it.
Seriously?
Oh, I killed it in one hit, how anti-climatic.

Now to test if this game blends.

The sphere puzzles in the temples were actually a lot of fun. I didn't care for how you could fail them and never get the treasures later, though.

The end of the game was colossally anti-climatic. After spending 20+ hours journeying across the world trying to find a way to defeat this powerful, immortal monster you defeat it by flying up and throwing a blitzball in its eye. I mean, the ball has spikes on it, but really?

The almost completely unrelated final boss was a total cop-out and ranks only one notch below the final boss in FF9 in terms of contrived final battles.

The ff9 final boss wiped my party with mustard gas every fight like 16+ times. I gave up.

There is no cure when someone dies from this attack. Throw all the P. Downs you want.

I don't think I've ever died to the final boss in Final Fantasy 9. I can't even remember what attacks he has. It seemed like every final boss starting with FF6 was trivial because you could load up with Elixers, teach every character their strongest skills and plow through without fear of harm.

It's a far cry from Saga Frontier where your healing skills are single use and extremely limited.

I love Saga Frontier and it's much harder than most games, but heal skills arent single use at all...

Where do you get multi-use heal skills? All I've ever found is healing potions, a light magic spell that heals one dude, and a mental magic spell that only works on yourself. If there's a multi-heal item it must be really obscure.

The only thing I remember about SaGa frontier is that it seemed like a whole bunch of really short versions of a game. Other than that I remember nothing. The only thing I remember about the FF9 final boss was who it was.

im a noob at words

single target and single use are different things.

but there's the unicorn's liferain and mermaid lady has a heal all skill too
they cost 1 LP to use though! (maybe they're the same? I dont remember)
i dont think they're the only one but yeah they are rare.

The Saga games don't get the exposure they deserve. They're all horribly flawed in some way but its in an endearing way.

By the way the DS remake of Final Fantasy Legend 2 got fan translated! Go play it it's awesome

Weren't the final bosses in FF's not that challenging by design? I have the distinct impression of reading something about it, that the final bosses were never meant to be too hard, but to be as a step up from the previous ones, while having the hardcore boss hidden somewhere in the game, for the one who wants a real challenge.

Oh yeah, the idea of super hard hidden bosses is one of the best things in Final Fantasies. I don't think I've ever beaten one (unless you count the flying and underwater Weapons in FF7 as one of them; I never beat the desert boss though). I've found the hidden bosses in FF5, FF7, FF8 and FF9. If I found one in FF4 or 6, I don't remember them.

These hidden bosses give a nice sense of an additional mystery to the games. They are never really explained so they leave this nice feeling of "so there is this kind of a creature/entity in this world minding it's own business somewhere out of the eyes of the regular people." It gives the player a new thing to use to create the world in one's own head.
