Title: Want a custom avatar?
Post by: phubans on April 23, 2012, 01:18:20 PM
Hey guys, have you heard of this service called Fiverr? They basically let you offer services on their site and then people pay you $5 for your goods or services. It might be a good way to earn some extra cash as an indie developer if you've got a unique talent you can share with the world.

I started a custom pixel art avatar creation business on there last night (with two sales already!) and it's been pretty fun:

Anyways, feel free to buy one or pass it on if you want to help out :D Otherwise, check out the site because maybe you can start offering services, too!

Fiverr's genuinely one of my favorite sites, because it's one of the few things that really represents to me what the internet sort of started out as; people just doing what they're good at whatever it is and you can take it or leave it. It's wonderful :coffee:

I dunno, I just figured it looks more legit with a signature on it. I've seen people watermark and copyright some pretty terrible art, so I guess it's just the artist's own respect for their work? What's the point of your comment?

do you do hi-res ones? ones that are pixel art, but use the full 100x100 pixels, instead of something like 16x16 pixels

At the above mentioned price that will cost you roughly $195.

Not currently. Truth is, I'm not comfortable/experienced enough in high-res pixel art to offer it as any kind of service. I'm a lot more comfortable working at the 16 x 16 - 32 x 32 level (these avatars are 24 x 24), which is why I'm offering avatars/icons and not general pixel art. And yeah, like sigvatr pointed out, that would certainly cost more than $5 I'm sure.
