Title: Can anyone identify these books? Post by: phubans on April 26, 2012, 11:59:31 AM Or perhaps recommend a large and active community of really knowledgeable folks who are obsessed with reading/collecting books that would have at least one person be able to help with finding books that the titles and authors of are unknown. I'm looking for two books:
- The first is probably one of my earliest memories. I think I was either at someone's house or in a thrift store and looking through a pile of books and this one really caught my eye. It was a late-70s/early-80s fantasy novel featuring cover art of this giant slug or snail monster in a foggy swamp littered with bones and skulls of humans and other creatures. There's this loin-clothed warrior holding a spear hiding behind some bushes in the foreground, giving you the idea of the scale of the monster, which is massive. I'm not 100% on all of the details, like what the guy looked like; he could have been in armor for all I know; I was probably 3 - 5 years old at the time. - The other book I'm searching for is an illustrated (black & white) book of aliens and UFOs, possibly aimed at young adults. I remember reading looking at this book at my school library as a 9-year-old kid during study hall. This one is even more of a long shot; the book contained an illustration of this man in his tool shed, who had just turned on a hanging light bulb to see some tiny humanoid figure walking along one of the shelves. This figure appeared to be a 3-inch-high bipedal humanoid with a smooth and featureless teardrop-shaped head and possibly some kind of spacesuit. Overall the creature appeared waxy and silvery. Both the giant swamp slug and the tiny humanoid spaceman were huge inspirations that stuck with me through the years, appearing in my own art and a few of my game ideas. They were so bizarre and unique that they stood out from anything else I had ever seen. I'd love to see these images again and extensive searches on these descriptions yielded nothing, so now I'm turning to the all-knowing denizens of the Internet! Please answer this old man's wish... Post by: cystem glitch on April 26, 2012, 03:33:05 PM I suggest you don't seek them out. If you find them they won't live up to what your imagination has made of them, and it will kill the strange hold they have over you.
Title: Re: Can anyone identify these books? Post by: Nix on April 26, 2012, 05:54:19 PM When I was pretty young there was this book that I was reading. It was one of the few books that I got really into and I started to become pretty invested in the story. Then I took it with me somewhere and left it and I never saw it again. I was about 3/4 of the way through and the loss was devastating. I couldn't stop thinking that I would one day find it and finish the story. I saw a copy of it the other day and remembered losing it so many years ago, but I realized that I didn't really give a shit.
