Title: The Desolate Hope Post by: MeshGearFox on May 19, 2012, 10:24:33 PM New game by the Iffermoon guy. Played it briefly. Appears to be, as they say in the biz, sweet as all hell.

The art style is lovely, but the game itself looks like it could be repetitive and dull. What about it do you find sweet? Title: Re: The Desolate Hope Post by: Fifth on May 20, 2012, 05:12:51 PM I was wondering if anybody would bring up this game here.
I've played through it, and it is a strange and beautiful game. I loved the setting of it, of the four robots, forgotten by mankind, yet diligently working away at their simulations, each one trying to make the most of the bleak, failing situation in its own way... The platforming itself is basic, really just a matter of getting around. But it does let you get the hang of how the game works, and explore each robot's simulation, getting a feel for the mood and finding the little bonuses. It's kinda relaxing, though you do always have the pressure of the day's limit over you while exploring. The battles are something bizarre and chaotic; I never really felt ready for them, but always met them head-on. They're not strictly turn-based, as the action will still continue while you're deciding what to do. They are a strange mix of cheating like crazy to keep your head above the water while piling on as many bonuses and modifiers as you can to hammer the boss non-stop. You don't get time to think, but you always have to be planning ahead. Very strange, and I really came to enjoy them. And it all comes together under a sad-yet-hopeful story to create a wonderful experience. It's a hefty download, but I do so recommend it.
