Title: I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream Post by: Melly on August 22, 2008, 01:19:10 AM http://data.antonindanek.cz/Harlan%20Ellison-I%20hav%20no%20Mouth%20and%20I%20must%20scream.pdf (http://data.antonindanek.cz/Harlan%20Ellison-I%20hav%20no%20Mouth%20and%20I%20must%20scream.pdf)
I just read it right now for the first time. Now I wanna make a game with a similar thematic. I know that there already is an adventure game of that story, but I was thinking a more abstract, Cactus-style game. In fact, Cactus should make his own version of IHNMAIMS. That would win so hard. Title: Re: I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream Post by: increpare on August 22, 2008, 02:07:05 AM I know Terry has a very high opinion of that game. I've not played it, but have read the story; not my favourite story by H.E., to be sure, but solid enough. Should go and play it some time.

It was really interesting to say the least. I'll have to find some of his other works.
I wonder. Could you make a game where you were the computer, trapped forever with nothing to do but mess with some human playthings? Would certainly be a new take on the Petz style game. Title: Re: I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream Post by: increpare on August 22, 2008, 01:23:07 PM Erm...it already exists
(http://feministphilosophers.files.wordpress.com/2007/10/babyz_coverart.jpg) (more seriously, one could point to the sims, or any god games, as examples of this sort of stuff I think...unless you had something more particular in mind?) A mind forever voyaging?Title: Re: I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream Post by: michael on August 22, 2008, 01:53:45 PM that was creepy... :wtf:
Title: Re: I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream Post by: Lucaz on August 22, 2008, 02:37:00 PM Thanks Melly. I wanted to read this for some time, since I played the game. It's good.
As for the game, it's a really good idea, but I have no idea how it would be. Title: Re: I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream Post by: ஒழுக்கின்மை on August 22, 2008, 04:25:40 PM I wonder. A mind forever voyaging? That's what came to mind for me too. I just played it recently (it was very hard to get working on modern computers). Title: Re: I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream Post by: Terry on August 22, 2008, 04:37:16 PM Yeah, I absolutely love this game :) One of my all time favorites, actually - the short story was interesting, but for me only as the source material for the game.
I've read a few of Harlan Ellison's short stories; my favorite by far is ""Repent, Harlequin!" Said the Ticktockman (http://www.cybermaze.com/jdj/eBooks/Repent%20Harlequin.pdf)". Title: Re: I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream Post by: TheViolentTango on August 22, 2008, 06:04:29 PM That was pretty good. Gotta say it'd be much better as a full length novel though, there certainly is enough concept behind it to support it. Still haven't played the game though. I've been meaning to for a long time now.

I guess a novel could go into more detail about each character, much like the game does. Including AM's distorted psyque. Title: Re: I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream Post by: nu on August 22, 2008, 08:08:44 PM Another IHNMAIMS themed game would be cool. I played through one character's scenario in the adventure game recently, and it's pretty disturbing/fun how AM just messes with you.
Title: Re: I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream Post by: qubodup on August 23, 2008, 04:56:05 AM I think this tread is terribly wrong. What the title and link meant to say: I Have Now Words & I Must Design (http://www.costik.com/nowords.html).
