Title: Unexpected Landing - Roleplaying/Survival Sim with 100 AI humans that matter Post by: Schwiggy on August 13, 2012, 09:19:36 AM (https://dl.dropbox.com/u/9633551/UL_Devlogs_Preview.jpg)
Video Devlog #1 "AXEPIG" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jY6tthJvjV4) Experimental Goals: Simulate 100 people as realistically as possible in realtime & let each player express themselves in a dynamic story and record this unique plot in a journal. A plane crash-lands on an uncharted island far away in the ocean. Miraculously, almost everyone survives. Things start to break down when people realize there are only so many resources and few chances of leaving this forsaken place. But as the first drop of blood hits the earth, a chain of events is set into motion that threatens to send them all into perpetual suffering. The dead rise, same name, same face... well, a little bit more rotten - things rot fast in the jungle - and hungry for flesh. This island is cursed. Sure, various leaders among the survivors have plans for escape, plans for a fix to all of this. But everything is so fragile. What will you do? I started on this 2 years ago and then restarted from the ground up more recently. The result is optimal scripting and cleaner user interactions, but there's still a lot to do. The content in the first video is dated by a month or so, in a week I'll have the second one and there'll be a better picture of how far along I am. But finally I'm working on this as a main project! Thanks for taking a look at this devlog (and the devlogs on TIGForums in general) by the way :) Pics or it didn't happen! Title: Re: Unexpected Landing - Roleplaying/Survival Sim with 100 AI humans that matter Post by: Schwiggy on August 14, 2012, 05:14:21 PM Me too, well, spiders give the creeps in general ha, even though I admire their aesthetic.. I'm not sure I'd call it beauty but they look so cool in many different varieties.
Today: (http://dl.dropbox.com/u/9633551/UL/prealpha_palmpreview.jpg) Palm trees! I finally shaded something :) Oh, and they're procedurally generated. Each tree gets random wood-segments, palms for the top, and coconuts (also,if it starts with none it marks itself as infertile and never grows coconuts, otherwise they grow back a day after being picked). Currently it supports drawing based on angles for each segment so I'll be adding wind soon to make them come alive. Title: Re: Unexpected Landing - Roleplaying/Survival Sim with 100 AI humans that matter Post by: Schwiggy on August 24, 2012, 02:02:26 PM Palm trees are looking good, though I still need to make coconuts an edible item and let the trees be chopped down. Then there are mimosa trees, which just rotate their leaves in the wind for now. The video also demonstrates lighting from torches and mushrooms.

I don't expect to be able to make another devlog for 2 weeks thanks to LD and a job opportunity, but when I do zombies and need-based AI should be featured. :) Should that be accompanied by a playable demo? I mean, I want to sell it but why not release a WIP here, right? I'm thinking I'll release WIP downloads from that point on through the development of base-items and group-AI. Then when it gets into achievements, convenience features, plotlines, and dynamic dialogue that'll be when it goes back to closed access. What do you think? |
