Title: Ikaros - adventure platformer
Post by: Ben H on October 16, 2012, 04:22:10 PM
Hello all,

This is my second game and first time posting here.
It's called Ikaros. It's an adventure platformer in the same vein as Metroid, Castlevania, Fez and others.
I've fleshed out the story, and got a simple engine working (I'm using Löve). Now I'm trying to decide on a visual style.

I made this first mock-up so I thought it'd be a good time to start a thread.
The image is from the first area, a forest filled with spores.
The two characters are an original (right) and a simplified one (left).
The simplified one still kind of looks out of place.

Comments and criticism welcome :)

This has a pretty cool art style, although truthfully, I prefer the simplified character more.

Is it going to be non-violent like Fez, or will it be more like Metroid and Castlevania?

look like it could be cool, i reckon you simplify the character even further, use chunky polygons to match the background style.. (see e.g., another world)

Yep it's going to be non-violent and puzzley like Fez :gomez:
The more simplified character is the newer one, and the direction I'm going.

Another World is actually what got me going down this art road :) I'm trying to simplify her more, but it's tricky. Glad to know others are thinking the same.
