Title: OFF Post by: Paprikaz on November 01, 2012, 06:56:16 AM Did you like Space Funeral or Yume Nikki? Looking something appropriate to play for Halloween?
Well look no further! OFF is RPG Maker game made by some french guy who goes by the name of Mortis Ghost. It just recently got translated into English. In “OFF” you take control of a mysterious person called “The Batter”, who is described to be on an important mission. The Batter, and yourself as his controller, are dropped off in zone 0, the first of 4 zones in a perplexing, unknown world about which you slowly find out more and more in the process of the game. Don't let the simplified graphics or the fact that it's made with RPG Maker fool you. This game is filled with awesomeness. Just finished the game, and I have to admit, this has to be one of my favorite video games of all time. Surprisingly this game haven't got the attention it deserves, so I thought about spreading the word about it as much as I can. People seriously need to know this game's existence. More information and download link for the actual game can be found here: http://forum.starmen.net/forum/Fan/Games/OFF-by-Mortis-Ghost Title: Re: OFF Post by: fraxcell on November 01, 2012, 07:40:25 PM Cool, I'll definitely try this out over the weekend.
Title: Re: OFF Post by: IzzyReggie on November 01, 2012, 08:54:46 PM I found the font completely intolerable and it made me skip like 90% of the dialogue. I was juuust about to give up and never play it again when I hit the first battle and the music charmed me.
Love dat BMusic Title: Re: OFF Post by: KittenEater on November 01, 2012, 09:05:29 PM YeeeeEEEEEEES THIS GAME IS AMAZING
it's very much like Space Funeral or Earthbound and it's so good aaaaahhh the atmosphere is weird and dark and whimsical, as is the writing and the art and the MUSIC also izzyreggie the font thing is your own fault Quote NOTE: Before playing, locate the font files inside the “OFF” folder and install them to your system; otherwise the game’s text might be difficult to read. It is however not recommended to open any folders inside the “OFF” folder iteself (like “Facesets”), for these contain spoiler material. aaahhhh I'm glad tigs finally discovered this, you guys should have a while ago Title: Re: OFF Post by: IzzyReggie on November 01, 2012, 10:26:15 PM also izzyreggie the font thing is your own fault I have a very hard time noticing/reading red words :-[Title: Re: OFF Post by: Paprikaz on November 02, 2012, 02:29:29 AM Ahh, good that some of you got interested. For second I thought everybody was going to ignore this. >:(
Title: Re: OFF Post by: KittenEater on November 04, 2012, 10:16:29 AM Pfffft, I wouldn't rest just yet.
I mean honestly, you would think it would be easy to get people to play a game where you make a baseball player beat up ghosts! I tell you, people don't know what they're missing... Title: Re: OFF Post by: moi on November 04, 2012, 08:43:22 PM Pfffft, I wouldn't rest just yet. it would be better if the game wasn't EXTREMELY BORING thoughI mean honestly, you would think it would be easy to get people to play a game where you make a baseball player beat up ghosts! Jrpg fights + random inescapable encounters every 5 seconds + useless interface pauses after each fight + dum labyrinths + incoherent setting (le art game) = * everything that I love in a videagam * Title: Re: OFF Post by: Paprikaz on November 05, 2012, 06:32:38 AM I totally understand if you're not a fan of random battles moi. But the quality of this game doesn't come from the mechanics. Yeah, I guess you can call it an art game, but it has done it's job surprisingly well for an RPG Maker game or any other game for that matter. The atmosphere, unique style, soundtrack (battle theme. the frigging battle theme man) and the plot are absolutely amazing. I mean, the way they address player's existence is mind blowing. You almost feel legitimately bad when you wipe off the ghosts... At least later on the game.
Don't judge the game too soon. There are major plot twists that'll probably change your opinion of the game. If not, well, I guess you can continue playing your non-JRPGs like skyrim or whatever you fancy. :giggle: Title: Re: OFF Post by: moi on November 05, 2012, 08:14:54 AM I'm not a fan of elder scrolls games,
the problem with this game is: I don't see the point of the battles and the annoying mazes (mazes are never fun), why not just make it a VN or an interactive story where you just click to advance the story? Title: Re: OFF Post by: KittenEater on November 05, 2012, 09:01:54 AM I guess because fighting ghosts by clicking a "next" button is less exciting and has less impact?
Also I'd like to note that you can, in fact, escape most battles. The Judges tells you how in the combat tutorial, but I guess most people don't catch on. You have to select "Flee" from The Batter's menu. Title: Re: OFF Post by: Paprikaz on November 05, 2012, 09:31:15 AM why not just make it a VN or an interactive story where you just click to advance the story? Oh c'mon, that's like asking why the whole Final Fantasy series wasn't just bunch of visual novels. Random battle encounters aren't for everyone. These are just matter of personal preferences, and clearly this game isn't for you. No problem. As for the mazes, I think they fit perfectly for this type of game. Title: Re: OFF Post by: moi on November 05, 2012, 09:36:46 AM I guess because fighting ghosts by clicking a "next" button is less exciting and has less impact? Well that's exactly what is happening with the game in its current form, except that instead of clicking next you have to click a combination of buttons for every round (attack, click , click, attack, click) so instead of clicking one "next" button, you click like 40 next buttons per battleAs for the "flee" button, I thought it would have consequences for the player, but if it has not, it just reinforces my point |
