I had a go with a couple friends, it was pretty wonderful. I really hope modding the engine becomes a big thing. I had to leave to do something halfway through, so my friends decided to hide the dice under the various pieces (emergent gameplay).

the engine itself is cool, a little tedious to organize things though.

the game itself sucks though. hopefully someone can take the source and make a decent game from it.

well they used unity and are very talented programmers, it wouldn't surprise me if they did it in a week.

Well, as mentioned in the video, the engine seems to just be a way to capture the "board game experience" on computers. Since there's no real gameplay script in there or w/e it probably didn't take a ton of time. Just make a multiplayer synchronous physics engine (not tough for them) and playtest a boardgame.

So is it made with the Pheonix engine(the one they use for overgrowth) or Unity?
Also, I suspect after developing overgrowth for almost 5 years(?) they hae quite some code for physics and etc. Assuming they didn't just use Unity.

if you have unity installed you can grab the project from github and see for yourself how they did it. it's pretty impressive, but easy to see how a talented program can do such a thing in 7 days with unity.

Well, too bad they are not as fast when working on Overgrowth.
I have seen some kickstarter project that looks more impressive than overgrowth that was made in one year.
(Overgrowth already hit it's fifth development year?)

I don't think they're working on overgrowth anymore, or they don't have a clear plan and don't know where they're going with this game.
gears of war games or other AAA games were done in less time.

but the developers of those games have larger teams of people working on them so it's not really fair to compare them.

though I can't imagine such a long development time being a benefit for the game. did they stop doing those alpha videos? you can pretty much pick a random video anytime during a year and it will appear to be as finished as it was a year before.

they have larger teams , but they also have larger assets, larger maps, everything is a ton more detailed, etc... so it's a bit similar

I think all of wolfire's energy is in the 'humble' stuff now

If it's complete, why they don't do the main quest\story right now?
It doesn't look complete to me, even if they got 90% of it done.

Is Overgrowth the Avatar of indie gaming ( I wouldn't say FEZ, because it took less time).
