Title: Attack of the Space Boulders - Asteroids on the Oculus Rift Post by: ScsiOverdrive on July 16, 2013, 11:42:32 AM Attack of the Space Boulders is a game I've been working on for the past 2 weeks with a friend of mine. It is heavily inspired by Asteroids but with a 3d twist, designed specifically for the Oculus Rift. We really wanted to transport the player into the cockpit of a virtual space vessel. The feeling of space flight and navigation being of the utmost importance.
Download version 1.0: Windows (http://cribzero.com/media/games/aotsb/aotsb_1.0.windows.zip) OSX (http://cribzero.com/media/games/aotsb/aotsb_1.0.osx.zip) Changes for 1.0: - Targeting system overhaul -- Target objects with the right mouse button or left bumper (xbox controller) -- HUD will display velocity relative to targeted object -- Added lead target reticle for easier aiming - Updated difficulty curve, starts easier but quickly gets much harder - Added explosion particle effects - Locking mouse to game during gameplay Changes for 0.9.5: - Added high score board - Support for standard monitors - Small gameplay tweaks and balances (http://cribzero.com/media/games/aotsb/aotsb_screen6.jpg) (http://cribzero.com/media/games/aotsb/aotsb_screen8.jpg) Screen shots don't really do the game justice, if you have a Rift then you should really see it in person! You can now play the game on a standard monitor as well. :) Title: Re: Attack of the Space Boulders - Asteroids on the Oculus Rift Post by: ScsiOverdrive on July 19, 2013, 10:09:21 AM Updated with a new version! Most notable feature is support for standard monitors. Let me know what you think. :)
Title: Re: Attack of the Space Boulders - Asteroids on the Oculus Rift Post by: Games Inquirer on July 19, 2013, 02:45:08 PM Neat, it makes me think of that old wireframe 3D Tetris where blocks fell inward the screen, like something they would have released alongside that. Well, it's exactly what you'd expect, 3D Asteroids from the cockpit POV.
The controls are weird outside keyboard & mouse, maybe let people reconfigure the axis (I like roll and pitch on left stick and yaw on right, aircraft style personally or at least yaw and pitch on any one stick FPS style). Title: Re: Attack of the Space Boulders - Asteroids on the Oculus Rift Post by: ScsiOverdrive on July 20, 2013, 01:48:13 PM The controls were designed with an xbox controller in mind, and may be strange on other controllers. They are configurable via the game launcher, in the input tab. :)

Title: Re: Attack of the Space Boulders - Asteroids on the Oculus Rift Post by: ithamore on August 01, 2013, 10:08:19 PM That was a lot of fun. It made me feel like I was finally playing a proper adaptation of Asteroids into 3D, which was/is an arcade favorite of mine. Also, the wire vector graphics were a great choice to go with.
Even though I'm only able to play with a keyboard and a mouse, I'm going to keep coming back to this game. |
