Title: Beat Detective Post by: Kunal on September 18, 2013, 07:14:59 PM I've been working this past month on a kind of music-memory game called Beat Detective and I have a functional version ready. I'd really like to get some feedback so here's the testflight signup page
http://tflig.ht/1bsh5tS The basic idea is 1)Pick a song from your iPhone/iPod music library 2)The program calculates the actual tempo of the song (but doesn't show it to you yet) 3)Play the song in your head and start tapping to what you think the tempo of the song is 4)Once you've reached a steady tempo you can then see the actual tempo and see how close you were. 5)Vew other peoples tapped-out tempos for the song you picked, or tap it out again while listening to the song Here are some screenshots. I've also put up a minute-long video that hopefully gets the basic idea across http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fjDyLr6PeYk. (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/4584297/BeatDetectiveScreens/photo%201.PNG) (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/4584297/BeatDetectiveScreens/photo%202.PNG) The look is fairly sparse. I've tried to use the cool effect from iTunes where the color scheme changes based on the album artwork. Edit: Added a gif (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/4584297/BeatDetectiveScreens/2013-09-18%2023_47_30.gif) Title: Re: Beat Detective Post by: fizzd on September 30, 2013, 02:27:25 AM Looks interesting! Signed up for the TestFlight (hope its compatible with my ancient iOS 5.1.1 ;) ); from the video I take it that there is no beat detection, but rather its based on manual input? I was thinking it would make a nice challenge to see how many songs you can get right in a row; or maybe a mode that has you tap along and fades out the song halfway then fades it back later to see how long you can stay on beat.
These ideas would of course require the app to know beforehand what the actual beat is. Title: Re: Beat Detective Post by: Kunal on September 30, 2013, 05:12:17 AM Looks interesting! If and when I do, (or if you update your OS) I'll let you know. The program does actually detect the BPM of the song. Sometimes it is off though. My unscientific tests suggest that it detects it correctly 80-90% of the time. Which is why I also allow the user to tap to music. Playlist mode sounds good! Will look into it. |
