A game about burgers, alien abduction, and the modern family

UFO Dad is a mashup of platforming and match 3 - think varying degrees of Mr. Driller + Tetris Attack + Bejeweled + Sokoban. Development was initially largely inspired by Mr. Driller (a series I love), but over time the game has taken shape into its current form.

Our hero is a suburban dad, master of the grill, sufferer of male pattern baldness, and wearer of sandals with socks. His homemade “wonder spatula” has attracted attention from those beyond the Milky Way - hungry aliens have come to abduct him and steal his scrumptious burgers!

  • As the UFO's tractor beam pulls up blocks of earth in an attempt to kidnap our hero, the player must utilize quick thinking in order to save themselves, their family, and most importantly, their burgers. They must repel the alien invaders for as long as possible while going after a high score
  • Protect the deliciousness - chain burgers of the same colour for points
  • Bigger chains = more points
  • Use the wonder spatula’s gravitron™ function to push your luck and go for bigger chains
  • Multiple characters with different attributes and special (so special) abilities
  • Local and PSN leaderboards

Hi everyone, Karl (the coder) here! I'm so excited to announce this title with Kevin, since the game is great, and it's been a lot of fun to work on as well. I started off working on Quake 2 mods, and ended up working on some big PC RTS titles. Now I'm working in mobile games, but miss the old-school SNES-era titles.

UFO Dad is a fun, not-so-serious game that I've actually managed to have some interesting technical challenges with. I'll be talking more in depth later, but one tidbit is that most of the game is written in lua...despite the PSM SDK only very recently supporting lua binding :)

Also we're happy to have Jung Chan onboard doing VFX - he's worked on Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon and Punch-Out Wii among other titles, so we're looking forward to all the glowey, particle goodness he'll add to the game.
