Title: Introducing ORBIS, a musical, minimalist topdown shooter Post by: FourthFloorGames on October 31, 2013, 08:53:00 PM Orbis is a game I've been working on for a few weeks. It is a hectic, face-paced topdown shooter with some RPG elements--you kill enemies to build up experience, and when you have enough experience, you can place down a turret or a powerup you can use later to give yourself a shield.
The link is here : http://fourthfloorgames.itch.io/orbis (http://i.imgur.com/ig4y4ti.png) If you REALLY like the game, there's an option to donate a little bit of money at the bottom, but the game is wholly available to play for free. Perhaps a quick flash of instructions, rather than having to scroll down to see how to play. For the amount of room you have to move, the hitbox seems a trifle big. I enjoyed it though, thank you for sharing! Also, which hitbox do you mean? I really tried to get the player hitbox to be as small as possible, I think right now its two pixels by two pixels... Title: Re: Introducing ORBIS, a musical, minimalist topdown shooter Post by: M.C.THUGZ on November 03, 2013, 09:23:32 AM no screenshots tldr
Title: Re: Introducing ORBIS, a musical, minimalist topdown shooter Post by: Udderdude on November 03, 2013, 09:28:52 AM Starts lagging/dropping frames by stage 2, I'm pretty sure Flash can handle a bunch of low quality primitives better than this .. (yes I put it on low quality mode and it still lagged).
Title: Re: Introducing ORBIS, a musical, minimalist topdown shooter Post by: FourthFloorGames on November 03, 2013, 09:39:30 AM i have a new build that reduces lag significantly, but i'm adding more content and stuff so i'll post it soon.

Title: Re: Introducing ORBIS, a musical, minimalist topdown shooter Post by: FourthFloorGames on November 03, 2013, 04:21:38 PM That new update is out! Two more enemies, two more waves, less framerate drops, controls now show up at the start of the game.
Title: Re: Introducing ORBIS, a musical, minimalist topdown shooter Post by: Udderdude on November 03, 2013, 04:24:54 PM Was still lagging .. and being able to shoot your own turrets was kind of bleh.
Title: Re: Introducing ORBIS, a musical, minimalist topdown shooter Post by: FourthFloorGames on November 03, 2013, 06:17:19 PM healing your turrets by shooting them just helps you alleviate the damage they take over time. im continuing to get the lag down, its being harder than expected...
Title: Re: Introducing ORBIS, a musical, minimalist topdown shooter Post by: Udderdude on November 04, 2013, 07:07:27 AM Oh, is that what that does? I just assumed it hurt them .. but it's not like you have a lot of time to be shooting at them.
I'm not sure why you're having such an issue with the lag, a game like this using Flash's default rendering method shouldn't have much of a problem at all. Title: Re: Introducing ORBIS, a musical, minimalist topdown shooter Post by: FourthFloorGames on November 04, 2013, 08:53:00 AM To be honest its not showing up for me or for my friends who are testing it, so I'm having a difficult time pinpointing its cause without much evidence.
EDIT--I've found one contributing cause and fixed it. That may be the only cause, but we'll see! |
