So for those that don't know, Cannes Lions is an hour and a half of the world's best commericials.  Of course, very few are from North America, so being North American I quite like to see what the rest of the world's advertising looks like (it's much better of course).

Anyway, theatres across Canada (and probably the US/World?) show it every year, and when I last went I had a great time.  The sheer variety (something new ever 30 seconds to a minute) is crazy, and after 90 minutes you walk out in a stupour; a happy stupour, but a stupour nonetheless.  I don't think the human brain is designed to take in that amount of information so quickly.  :D

So I think it would be really great if we could maybe make a community project where we all create 30-60 second adver-games for fake products and then tie them all together.  I don't think it's that hard to create a 30 second adver-game, so I'm sure a lot of people would submit them; definitely a light hearted affair!  The reason I don't think we should sync this up with the (likely) short games compo is that the games in that probably won't all be light hearted fluff, and they won't advertise insane fake products, which is half the fun.  And if it's a success, we could make it yearly like Cannes Lions.  :beer:

Well, we already figured out this amazing truth in the "future compos" thread awhile back.  I think what would make this even more awesome would be having them as one big collection of games so that it felt like a mind-numbing barrage!  Plus, adver-games for fake silly products!  :beer:

Making them advergames instantly reduces the possible awesomeness to about a hundredth. Sorry! I'm all for Very Short Games, though.

Yeah, but that's for a real product, not for something like Monty Python's Sheep Cleaner, or !!!Super Oyster Fun Gel!!!  (that was totally random...strange mind I have).

A collaborative microgames collection seems pretty badass to me. But I do have to agree with agj a bit, I think if we were to do that they might as well not be advertisements.

Then again, if it comes off like a constantly changing and extremely obnoxious interactive banner ad...

It would need to be in Klik n Play for maximum effectiveness. Kind of like the pirate cart thing from a ways back.

I've never used Klik n Play, but I wouldn't be against the idea; seems like it'd be really B-Gamey though (which is not necessarily a bad thing).

You're not allowed to call anything "Pan-Galactic" unless it also has the words "Gargle" and "Blaster" in it.
