Title: Vertical Drop Heroes: Spelunky meets Rogue Legacy meets Desktop Dungeons! Post by: nerdook on December 31, 2013, 09:02:59 AM Looking for testing and feedback for the latest demo build of my randomly generated platformer/RPG that's up on Steam Greenlight. Here's the link to the demo:
http://www.mediafire.com/download/sv3tso8fgzv80gv/Vertical+Drop+Heroes+Demo+4.exe ...and here's the Greenlight page itself. http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=205631999 I've completed the first six 'worlds' of a total of ten planned the final game, with virtually all the skills, powers and traits implemented in the game. I'll continue tweaking as I go along, depending on feedback and my own playtesting sessions, but here are some screenshots so you know what you're getting into: (http://imageshack.us/scaled/landing/32/0nuf.png) (http://img838.imageshack.us/img838/1261/j8a2.png) (http://imageshack.us/scaled/landing/35/4t5m.png) (http://imageshack.us/scaled/landing/36/9l0o.png) Title: Re: [Greenlight Alpha Build] Vertical Drop Heroes Post by: nerdook on January 08, 2014, 06:22:52 AM Grab the latest demo here: http://www.mediafire.com/download/oizuzu953sflahd/Vertical+Drop+Heroes+Demo+6.exe
Now with split screen gameplay! Title: Re: [Greenlight Alpha Build] Vertical Drop Heroes Post by: jprogman on January 11, 2014, 11:11:12 AM Very awesome game you got thus far!
It's nice that I can change some keys, but it's missing the ability to change the CTRL key. I didn't realize that key is used until I entered the character selection screen. I took a peek at the Greenlight forums and heard somewhere that this is one of several editions of Vertical Drop Heroes. Although, this version is the first one that I tried out of the rest. If there are previous versions, I would like to give them a look! I love the dynamic level generation, but my only concern is developing dead-ends. I got one occasion where I couldn't go down any further as it generated a rough row of blocks and spikes. I know there's a portal to enter to complete the level at the very bottom of the level, but the dead-end prevented me to go down. I take it that if you do get stuck -- such as no more keys to enter the portal, you should either a) press ESCAPE to abort the game, or b) lose the game. Fortunately I knew by default that the ESCAPE key would get me out of this, but a little note would had reminded me to abort when I couldn't progress any farther. This is only a little thing I would suggest, especially to any new players to the series. The hit-detection is alright in my mind, just that it annoys me that enemies with long weapons are longer than my weapon. I guess that is part of the challenge and you gotta plan your attack -- maybe attack from behind. I suppose more practice would make me a better player. ;) The graphics is superb, and the music, sound and art are wonderful! Again, I like to see how this compared to other versions if possible. Good luck on getting the green light! You got a fantastic project there! Title: Re: [Greenlight Alpha Build] Vertical Drop Heroes Post by: nerdook on January 11, 2014, 10:13:58 PM Thank you! The only other version of the game, and the original concept, was a Flash game I made back in 2010. You can try it here: http://www.kongregate.com/games/nerdook/vertical-drop-heroes
I'll continue to fix the niggling issues with the controls, and you can expect a new version of the game every few days or so, so do check back for more updates, and thanks for trying the demo! |
