Post by: Beavl on January 08, 2014, 06:52:02 PM
Hey, guys!

Faif is a puzzle/rpg game with a unique battle system based on gambling.
Try to defeat as many opponents as you can and unravel the secret story behind the game.

HOW TO PLAY IT
After choosing 5 adjacent tiles you only get one! Play wisely with the odds and defeat your enemies before they defeat you.

FEATURES
* Unique gameplay
* Epic “odd” battles
* No IAP's whatsoever
* A nice shop with kickass powerups (use gems you collect in the game as payment)
* Infinite mode (survive as many opponents as you can)
* Lots of stuff coming soon (instant spells, boss battles, random rewards and more!)

You can play the web version or download Android and support us (50% early access sale!) here:

What do you guys think about the game? Any feature you'd like to see?

This looked really intriguing, but I have to admit, I had a hard time figuring out simply how to play. Maybe the instructions need to be fleshed out a bit more. For example, I would say "To damage your opponent, select at least one skull and one sword. You will damage your opponent if you get a sword, and hit 1 point of damage for each skull you had selected. But be careful, the more skulls you select, the greater the chance you have a taking damage yourself."

The instructions also say the tiles you pick must be adjacent to each other, and yet, sometimes I would attempt to select a tile that was adjacent to another tile, and it would give me the error ding. I don't know why. Maybe the problem is in the order that you pick the tiles? It seems like it gets goofed up if you for example pick three adjacent tiles, then attempt to pick a tile adjacent to your starting tile, but not adjacent to the last tile you selected. If that is how the rules work, it should explain it, but I think it would be better if you could simply select 5 adjacent tiles.

A couple other quick thoughts. It takes about 5 seconds after you select your 5th tile to show which tile you get. I would lower that to a second or two, it takes too long. Also, the beep sounds are too shrill and almost painful to hear, maybe a less aggressive sound effect would be better and would fit better with the look of the game. Overall, I think this is really interesting and different(and nice graphics too). Nice job!

Twoeyedcyclops,

Thanks for your feedback!

We are including a ingame tutorial in next update, along with instant spells (playable during your turn) and better opponent progression. Expect it this same week!

Future updates will include boss battles and more.

Concerning sound design yeah, we still need to work on it and polish everything.

Cheers!

Very neat game! (I played the web version)
I played three times but the highest I got was 5 kills I think.(Should have utilized the store more.) Feels like a roguelikelike actually.

Things I liked:
- I love the balance between picking skulls and swords. And gems for the shop.
- Art style
- How the whole board shifts when it's the opponent's turn.

Suggestions:
- Perhaps a different sound when you select an invalid move?
- Not sure if it's feasible but I think it would be cooler to see more of the risk/reward balance for tiles other than swords and skulls. For instance, the heart seems a little neglected.

Btw, was it difficult coming up with the AI for the game?

Again, very cool!
