Title: Enigmabot - Teleportation Platformer Post by: Beanallean on January 17, 2014, 07:49:44 PM DOWNLOAD VIA GAMEJOLT: http://gamejolt.com/games/platformer/enigmabot/21359/
Enigmabot is a puzzle platformer where you cannot jump, and must use teleportation as your way of getting around. The game contains a combination of jumping (teleporting) puzzles and block pushing puzzles (HUZZAH!). It's basically everything I wanted to be in GOOMWITTEY that I couldn't get in. Any criticism/praise is welcome! If any level is too hard for you, please comment on it. It wasn't supposed to be originally, but then it just... became one. But it's different enough to warrant its own game. cool spectrum retro look! ;) Thanks :D Title: Re: Enigmabot - Teleportation Platformer Post by: Jubjub on January 18, 2014, 10:25:04 AM In the first timed level, I got caught by the blue barrier just as it closed, perhaps you could make it so it kills you instead.
I'm liking the puzzles a lot so far, I particularly liked how the timed level was done. You should add a saaving system, the game turned black for some reason or another after leaving my computer unattended for a while and I had to restart from the beggining. It took a lot less time the second go around though. Congratulations on a great game, if I manage to beat it I'll leave some more feedback! Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it :) For the timed level, when you say you got caught by the blue barrier, do you mean you got stuck inside of it when it closed or you just didn't make it in time? If it's the first, then it is supposed to kill you, and I'll have to look into fixing that. If its the second, then that's just how the level works. It would be sort of weird if you just died when the last block falls. Also, I can add a save/load. I totally forgot about that, and will do it now. Thanks again for playing! Title: Re: Enigmabot - Teleportation Platformer Post by: Beanallean on January 18, 2014, 02:34:00 PM Hey all, I just added an autosave and level select screen. So even if you've already downloaded it, re-download it to get the new stuff. I also made the collision box for the moving hazards a bit smaller and made them move a bit slower on level 16.
Title: Re: Enigmabot - Teleportation Platformer Post by: pladmi on January 21, 2014, 06:11:05 AM Hi!
I enjoyed GOOMWITTEY a lot, so I was pretty enthusiastic to try your new game :) In general, I'd say it worked out pretty well! It definitely took a big step towards puzzles rather than execution. To be totally honest, I liked GOOMWITTEY better, but puzzles were pretty fun too, difficult enough to be satisfying and easy enough not to be boring. There were a couple programming issues though. Sometimes the protagonist square would get sucked into spikes for no apparent reason, and it is pretty frustrating, especially on the pre-last level. Also, the last level is very laggy (still very enjoyable!). All in all, good game! Title: Re: Enigmabot - Teleportation Platformer Post by: Beanallean on January 21, 2014, 04:21:51 PM Hi! I was trying to balance the game with execution and puzzle based levels, and I think I did a pretty good job. Unfortunately, the block pushing was sort of broken. I don't know if you noticed this but, if you do it right, you can push blocks while you're in the air. And you're not supposed to be able to do that, and it breaks a lot of puzzles. I fixed it about an hour ago, but it isn't a huge deal. In the end I actually like this game more than goomwittey. This game just felt more complete, even though it was 30 levels shorter, and it had a decent title/end screen + a level select screen. Goomwittey just closes at the end, has no title/end screen/level select, and I personally think that the walljump is really bad and primitive. I still love goomwittey though, I just like this game more (when it works). Sorry for rambling, and thanks again for playing! One last thing, if you/anyone is wondering, my next game won't have the same look as my last two. It's starting development soon and it will need LOT'S of testers. This game will hopefully be a lot bigger and have a lot more replayability hint-hint. Title: Re: Enigmabot - Teleportation Platformer Post by: mmoffatt on January 21, 2014, 05:53:56 PM The puzzle design is really good, there were some levels that took a while to figure out. Plus the final level took a long time but that was good cause it made the end worth it. I can't think of much it's missing, possibly some music if you think it would fit. I'll have to try GOOMWITTEY soon. How long did this take you to make?

It's hard to say how long this game took because I made the platform code waaaay back and the block puzzle code awhile back, and combined them both into this game. All in all, it was only like 2 weeks though if you get rid of the gaps. Goomwittey took about 2 months. |
