Anyway, it was impossible to control but I had fun goofing around and listening to the music. Title: Re: Tony Eagle: Amateur Skateboarding Post by: Rat Casket on March 25, 2014, 09:20:45 AM good lord yes

Moonman is my real game..
Title: Re: Tony Eagle: Amateur Skateboarding Post by: mickmaus on March 25, 2014, 03:07:27 PM would you consider releasing source for this? I'm not very good at unity and being able to check out something of this scale would really help me out!!!! do it for your son
Title: Re: Tony Eagle: Amateur Skateboarding Post by: Greg Game Man on March 25, 2014, 03:34:00 PM sourcecode is a sewer of despair, you don't wanna look in there but i'll ruin some of the magic for you:
- raycast down, get the normal, then do some quaternion magic to get angle the player should be at. then use lerp to align him - to check bails i got collision point on the player, made sure it was above his knees, then checked he was going fast enough to bail. otherwise i reverse his acceleration vector so he bounces off - to check other bails i get angle of floor and player when he lands and use vector3.angle or quaternion.angle to see if the gap is big enough - when he lands i get his momentum vector, then i get his transform.forward. i zero out the Y of both. if the angle between them is like 45 degrees, i bail him (landed sideways). if its 180 i reverse his acceleration so you can skate backwards - to check tricks i: have a ball of invisible blocks which follow the player. they're named "front", "front right", "top"..etc, when you're in the air he raycasts forward and any blocks hit by the raycast get added to a list. the list is checked so if you have certain blocks and in certain order, the game knows you did a leftside 180 or a backflip or whatever thats all the tricky stuff - good luck son Title: Re: Tony Eagle: Amateur Skateboarding Post by: mickmaus on March 25, 2014, 03:46:16 PM ^^^ That was absolutely massively helpful.
Last question, what kind of `thing` is the character? Are you driving him around with a character controller, kinematic rigidbody? EDIT: Your Physics platformer kit looks awesome, will investigate. Title: Re: Tony Eagle: Amateur Skateboarding Post by: SolarLune on March 25, 2014, 04:34:29 PM This is indeed satisfactory.
Nice work! Title: Re: Tony Eagle: Amateur Skateboarding Post by: Greg Game Man on March 25, 2014, 05:06:44 PM ^^^ That was absolutely massively helpful. EDIT: Your Physics platformer kit looks awesome, will investigate. yesssssss goyim, buy it, buy it all (its a character controller) Title: Re: Tony Eagle: Amateur Skateboarding Post by: Gimym JIMBERT on March 26, 2014, 02:18:03 PM can we make mario galaxy with this platformer framework? with relative camera aligned to current gravity direction?
Title: Re: Tony Eagle: Amateur Skateboarding Post by: Greg Game Man on March 26, 2014, 02:30:57 PM can we make mario galaxy with this platformer framework? with relative camera aligned to current gravity direction? that's not included but if you really wanted to do it, it's a simple add: - get closest planet to player - set world gravity to be a vector3 (planet pos - player pos) pointing to that planet - rotate player/camera to face their Y axis down at centre of planet Title: Re: Tony Eagle: Amateur Skateboarding Post by: Gimym JIMBERT on March 26, 2014, 04:18:02 PM and how do you avoid gimbal lock? (been there)
beside that mario galaxy has more than planetoid, planet came in all shapes and form Title: Re: Tony Eagle: Amateur Skateboarding Post by: ugabuga on March 26, 2014, 04:49:07 PM Wow that Superman song is nostalgic. Really fun game dude.
Title: Re: Tony Eagle: Amateur Skateboarding Post by: Zeusington on March 26, 2014, 05:12:40 PM Why aren't there more skating games? No, being a nightmare to develop doesn't count. You did this in two days bro.
Two. Days. Title: Re: Tony Eagle: Amateur Skateboarding Post by: mickmaus on March 26, 2014, 07:35:57 PM Why aren't there more skating games? No, being a nightmare to develop doesn't count. Title: Re: Tony Eagle: Amateur Skateboarding Post by: thedukeofzill on April 13, 2014, 02:22:54 PM Please continue this.
Title: Re: Tony Eagle: Amateur Skateboarding Post by: Gluntronics on April 13, 2014, 10:02:29 PM I was sold by the .gif alone. Looks like Sumotori Dreams had tender love with THPS and this was the result.
With there was a little more to it but great work for that quick a turn around. Title: Re: Tony Eagle: Amateur Skateboarding Post by: eeedni on April 14, 2014, 12:48:25 AM This is way too much silly fun. I love it.
But, to be honest, that opinion may be highly colored by the Goldfinger Chiptune. I want that so bad. Mind if I ask where you got it? Title: Re: Tony Eagle: Amateur Skateboarding Post by: reza on April 14, 2014, 01:27:56 AM how crazy, first off, i had fun playing this. i played much longer than i would have if it weren't for the stats you could increase after each round, so it was really nice to have that feature make a big impact. this game could be really cool if you expanded on it and found more ways to bring humor to the game and just encourage ridiculous gameplay/movement. also the names of the tricks were super funny.
but then your website name sounded familiar and now i realize we used to animate together back in the day. or at least once. i used to go by woodpusher like 10 years ago animating stick figures and now i do freelance animation stuff. it's really cool that you kept an interest with the programming you dabbled with a while back and are really into making games now. i just played through use boxmen too which was a fun lil game that i also played for longer than i expected, haha. but yeah, i browse tigsource a lot just to get inspired and figured i should finally register and say hey :) keep it up mane Title: Re: Tony Eagle: Amateur Skateboarding Post by: feglk on April 14, 2014, 08:00:42 AM Pretty impressive for a game jam game. The physics are pretty good, and it is definitely fun to play. Maybe a bit difficult to land the tricks, but then if it was too easy it would be no fun!
