Title: metajoust/metaquest/metasomething Post by: Fresh Mozzarella on April 28, 2014, 07:08:30 AM (http://dwyfi.com/meta/meta_logo.png) metajoust/metaquest/metasomething (name obviously TBD) is something I'm messing (up) with and want to talk about with others. The idea of the game is a 2 player jousting experience displayed as such: (http://dwyfi.com/meta/meta.gif) There's nothing out of the ordinary (besides the crappy collision/movement code) but its just a prototype to get the idea. You're movement is mapped to WASD but reversed (W is back, S is forward, etc) and once you cross the other players line, your attack stance is reversed. All players start out with a difficult to control ship with high acceleration. Now, where the "meta" comes into play is the game outside the game. Players would have 3 main attributes- speed, armor & attack. By playing the game (scoring points, collecting exp during matches) you're able to upgrade your jouster to become manageable (http://dwyfi.com/meta/meta_stats.png) The idea would be to have powerups, upgrades, potentially different lances, different movement patterns and combinations to have the "meta" largely affect the in-game, game. I hate the word "meta" and when people say "meta" but I love the idea of having a game that is so very controlled about choices made outside of typical gameplay.
