2008 was a good year.

-Finally ended high school. Now to do something useful, or nothing at all!
-Got my gaming to new depths.
-Entered TIGS.
-Got into game design.
-Played LOTS of games, including most LucasArts, all the Fallouts, COD4, and all Dooms.
-Discovered Dwarf Fortress and Warning Forever. It will never be the same.
-Listened lots of great music I didn't know, mostly Add N to(X) and Alphaville.
-Started a blog.
-Finally got a chance, after some years, of watching Neon Genesis Evangelion and Boogiepop Phantom for a second time, and realised I hate the first, and love the second more than I did before, and I'm happy with that.
-Started reading comics, and close to this days, finally gave manga a chance. Yotsuba&! is great.

Lots of real world stuff happening as well. Broke up with a long-term girlfriend, broke my car, moved off campus and found myself broke. I have been really happy with this year though, it's been liberating.

2008 will be a year to remember.

- Started making my first videogame.
- Launched my website.
- Started a collaborative web project that has some potential but needs more spreading around.
- Made a few more videogames, one of which got rather positive reactions.
- Made music for the first time.
- Made an album with friends.
- Spent my last year in (my current) university.

edit: Oh yeah, I also wrote and showed an English-language story to other people for the first time, on top of some in Spanish for a contest.

was pretty shit actually.

-i failed uni...again
-i stupidly decided to give it another go
-i can't believe my gf hasn't dumped me
-i keep running out of money because i spend it all on Xbox points
-i didn't do much programming learning or anything because i felt guilty about not studying for uni
-i didn't study for uni because i hate it :<
-i was in hospital for 4 days with a serious case of a minor infection
-i played lots of good games and saw possibly my favourite film ever, Wall-E

Basically this year had a lot of stuff for me:
-Filled the last page of my diary after 11 1/2 years.
-Learned my sleeping pattern is crap
-Finished a small adventure game
-Fell in love again, lost love again, got over love again.
-Gained and lost a friend in two months. Lost a friend. Strengthened friendships.
-Hosted two parties, one of which was awesome.
-Started playing DnD more seriously.
-Vastly improved my drawing and painting skills, mainly through my new tablet.
-Discovered the indie music scene.
-Discovered the demo scene.
-Joined these wonderful forums, promptly disappeared for a month and a half, then resurfaced.
-Discovered Mystery Science Theater 3000 and The Spoony Experiment, not to mention That Guy With the Glasses.
-Watched a bunch of anime and read a bunch of manga.
-Worked on my novel, then put it aside until it was the right time to write it. Also worked on a few short stories, never finished them.
-Played around with a few programming languages.
-Wrote down a crap load of game ideas.
-Enjoyed a lot of media.

-got hired at a new place and fulfilled a goal I set 3 years ago

- Get more work done;
- Write more games and learn more programming.

Oh 2008, you have been good to me.

- I made my first game
- I figured out what I'm doing with the rest of my college career
- I got a sweet internship at Chronic Logic
- I made my second game
- I had a fun and easy first quarter as an art major
- I should have my third game done before 2008 is over

Its been a really good year, I'm optimistic and highly productive for the first time in a while. Its not a year I'll soon forget.

I already know that 2009 > 2008 but I have no idea why or how. I can't wait to find out!

- Learned a great deal about nearly everything.
- Became a lot more confident about doing art (still not great, but better)
- Lost a lot of work when my hard drive died.
- Started a new, ambitious project which is already shaping up really well.
- Survived another year of the math honours program with reasonably good grades (A- to A+ range).
- Dated two attractive and interesting women.
- Went through no more than the usual amount of weird emotional shit.

2008 was good, but I think 2009 can do better. Bring it on, arbitrary unit of time!

What a year 2008 was. I:

- Finally fully established my position as a professional game designer
- Met Marius - my current programmer and reminded myself how awesome indies are
- Got lots of consoles and great games to play
- Started my work on ArcMagi
- Earned more money than through my whole former life :)

- Learned that living on my own is cool but has some disadvantages (see the above)
- Released one fun casual game that enjoyed mild success

- For the first time had to let a member of my own development team go
- Met Lurk and again reminded myself how awesome indies are
- Hit 5 years mark with my relationship and realized I'm still as in love as when it started
- Got the first project at my job where I act as the main designer

I made four games, learned Flash ActionScript for one.
Moved into a new apartment closer to my friends in the city.

Got some of my games mentioned on Indiegames and Bytejacker. And now TIGsource!
Got a little fatter.
Got bored at work a lot. (Probably contributed to the fatter thing.)
Road Tripped to Portland.
Joined the company Softball team, mostly to see a girl more.
Asked same girl out, didn't work.
Bought a new camera, filled up a Flickr.
Grew a beard for the first time, then later just a goatee. Went back to clean shaven.
Started learning how to make music with FL studio.
Named the game "Chimps Ahoy" and won an iPod Touch.
Some other stuff I can't remember now.
Oh, also I voted for the first time, for Barack Obama.
Entered a game for consideration at IGF.
Bought a new bike.

Last year, at exactly this day, I was struggling to get "Breathe", my entry for the Text the  Hall compo.

I don't care very much about that game, but it certainly was my first step out of the mainstream industry, and into indie life.

2008 felt like I was catching up with life.

So TIGSource is now one of my birthplaces.

- Decided that 'game maker' apps could make large and interesting games, and using one did not immediately make you a wuss. 8)
- Realized that I have slowly strangled my social life to death
- Realized that I don't really care
- Felt old
- Felt really, really old, because my girlfriend and I are shut-ins that spend all night at home and never really see but two or three friends, and only maybe once every 2 months. This reminds me of my parents, who were also shut-ins when I was growing up. Thus, the feeling old.
- Realized (twice!) that the people at work are completely lame and either don't have the skillz to make games for compos, or say they are interested but don't really put in any effort.

2009
- Hope to finish a game for once that has a title screen and more than 2 minutes of gameplay before the player (realistically) gets bored.

- I kept working on "California Office". We will release it this year.
- I had my own room for working at my house, at last!
- I made a trip to Amsterdam for the first time.
- I made a trip to Frankfurt
- I released IndieLib 2d engine for rapid game development after 5 years working on it. I created all the documentation in English (what a pain!) and several tutorials, wordpress blog, forums, wiki, etc.
- I made several trips to Brno (Czech Republic)
- I made freelancing as a 3d designer for architectural projects
- I pass some subjects of my computer engineer degree, still not finished.
- The game I'm developing, "California Office", won a nomination as best independent video game in the Campus Party (Valencia).
- My girlfriend for two years from Czech Republic came to work to my city: Murcia, Spain. No more studying abroad or spending months as freelancer in cold countries.
- Looked for help for my gamming portal pixelartgames.com. I was looking for some English-speaking people in order to write reviews. Sharing the incomings. Finally I found nobody :(
- I decided to work hard with 3 friends an to create a new company focused in social networks and products related to design, art and game development.
- Created a business plan for the company.
- Worked hard designing a new social network, (sketches, etc).
- I quit my job two months ago, and I started to work full time with these three friends.
- We divided the work. 2 of my friends work hard in the social network, the third one start to work for others in order to earn money for the team and I start to develop a new gamming portal... (that of course is going to be a revolution, :P).
- I made a trip to Amsterdam for the second time :)
- I created a personal blog, javilop.com.
- Created gametuto.com, as a hobby. Made a Tetris clone tutorial and planning to make more.
- Won an award for young enterprising (5k), thanks to the business plan.
- After two months of working with my three friends, everything is coming really fast. Next monday we are going fill the last gaps for creating the company (Cokidoo) :)

I forgot two very important things that happened this year:
-Finally got a completely functional computer with internet and a good graphics card
-Cut my hair for first time in seven years.

I had a dream last night that my hair was getting really, really long and I hadn't had it cut in some time, so I joined a metal band.

Obviously this is a logical decision.

That has to be the best dream ever and I wish it was mine.

No, that would be the dream where I went to prison with Samuel L. Jackson and we broke out with woks as weapons.

Buh. My life seems to be very dull. Anyway, I enjoy it. Maybe There'll happen more next year.

It's really hard trying to remember everything significant you did in the last year.

I didn't finish Saturated Dreamers, but I worked on it sometimes. I worked on and released v1.1 of Immortal Defense. I got a little better at Starcraft. My friend and his friend stayed over my house for two weeks during the summer, one day of which we met Shnabubula (my favorite OC remixer and my friend's friend) in NYC. I wrote a tour guide to Tanzania, even though I've never been there. I started talking online with a lot of great people, such as Clysm and TeeGee (it seems every year I meet more great people, it's amazing how many there are in the world, they're endless). I started loaning/donating to people in third world nations through Kiva, and promoted an indie game group for that. I volunteered for Ron Paul in the primaries, and put up signs and the like. I wrote a story for an online friend. I wrote a lot of entries in my LiveJournal, and wrote a few reviews for various indie game blogs (indiegames.com, playthisthing.com, and tigsource.com). I wrote/received a lot of love-letter emails to a friend. But mostly I just wasted time, watching YouTube and playing games.

Oh yeah I also got my first paid pixel gigs this year.

In 2008,

-I nearly completed my Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science
-I co-manage a retail store which my family started
-I became a serious indie game developer
-I bought my self my first domain name
-I almost dropped out of University cause it is all bullshit
-I am started to want a life of my own

In 2009 I hope to,

-Graduate and get my Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science
-Complete my first game and sell it
-Get healthy
-Earn beaucoupe money and pay off debts and build a house of my own

HOLY SHIT GUYS, 2009!

well, I do live in the third world, so yeah, things could go a lot worse  ;)

As for 2008:

-Almost finished college
-Deerhunter, Vivian Girls, Beach House and more, more records
-Got to see great live shows, but unfortunately ended up broke in the process
-Got a brand new pc (fear 2 bring it on!)
-Played a few games, and some more awesome indies
-wished I could play a little more
-couldn't hold my drink as I used to
-started to rebuild a long lost friendship
-got to see a german friend for the first time in 4 years...
-... and then had to say goodbye again
-got my heartbroken twice
-got an honorable mention in a literature contest
-joined tigs but still being lazy to post at all

2009: ?

decided to become CS major
took a semester off of college
moved back home to Seattle
shit hit the fan
moved back to Oklahoma
got married 

I can't wait to see what happens in '09...
