About the Game

Raptor-like aliens have invaded Earth!

In a distant future, colonisation has begun as these high-tech and brightly-lit raiders seek to conquer the galaxy and expand their empire: starting with Earth. In a blitzkrieg of neon and fire, they have brought our immediate defences to their knees.

Fortunately, we were prepared for such an invasion. Utilising the untapped alien power of neon technology against them, Earth scientists have created their own jetpack-propelled, energy-flinging cyborg!

Play as humanity’s last hope – it’s up to you to stop this extermination and turn the tides. Equipped with a trusty arm-mounted laser sword, storm the alien base and take the fight to the enemy!

About Myself
Hiya, the name’s Jackson Wong! I’m currently studying a Bachelor of Creative Technologies (Game Art) at Media Design School in Auckland, New Zealand. This is my first semester’s project, as well as my first game of this scale. I hope you take a minute or two to give it a go!

Please note the game is still a work-in-progress, and I may or may not work on it in the future.

Hello. Your link to itch.io doesn't seem to be working, and the GameJolt page has no downloads at the moment.

Update: Ok. The itch.io download is working now.

-On the title screen, the sound should correspond to the movement but it stops when I release the key.
-I'm not a fan of bouncy humanoids, personally. I feel like using a "pressed" event for jump input would be better.
-The tutorial messages work pretty well, although the charge dash through that breakable wall wasn't entirely clear. I just figured the crates were there for a reason, so I broke them and tried again.
-The dash should probably have a cooldown or regenerating energy bar. It's far too easy to just fly around the levels, avoiding almost everything.
-The animations are pretty good.
-I like the enemy designs, but I wish there was more variety, especially in the first area.
-The boss is far too easy. I don't think it hit me even once, and I barely had to dodge anything. It could really use more than one attack.
-I liked that there was at least one optional room. It would be nice if there were more of those.
-It would be helpful if I could know things a little more accurately, like how much health I have, how much health the boss has, how much energy I have, etc. I went through the game never really knowing how much health I had, or how red I could get before I would die.

Bugs/Weirdness:

-I died right at the exit of level 1, with no enemies around. I thought I'd finished the game, but then I looked at your screenshots and realized there was more to it.
-Upon restarting the game after dying, the music track was duplicated so that I could hear two copies playing together. I'd recommend looking into the GM functions for checking if a sound or music track is playing.

The game worked really great. The movement felt good. Melee attacks were fine. The level design was a bit simple but not bad. I do wish I had more options for dealing with enemies, but it was all right.

Wow, wasn't expecting feedback so soon and comprehensive! Thanks for checking it out!

Definitely some design/coding hiccups on my part - thanks for pointing those out. I was also aiming for one of those HUD-less indicators when it came to health/energy/obstacle indicators, so it looks like I need some more work on the signposting. I'll keep those points in mind next time I get round to working on the game.

Again, thanks a lot for playing - I hope you've checked out some of my classmates' games, too! You wouldn't have missed us: we're the huge group who just dumped our games almost simultaneously, haha.
