Title: Raijin Storm Post by: AlcoholicApe on June 23, 2014, 08:05:17 PM Hi TIG Community!
This is my very first arcade game, I am currently studying at Media Design School for a bachelor in Creative Technologies. I really like character designs and have based my game around this. Summary Raijin Storm is a 2D side scrolling platform shooter with some melee combat and tower defence mechanisms, I created this game with inspirations taken from the Megaman, Contra, Street Fighter and Okami. The game is centered around the ability to shoot in a complete 360 range , The player must defend the castle wall and fight off enemy waves. How long can you survive?. I don't feel like I'm hitting the enemies. There's no "bang" effect, no blood, no knock-back or anything.
My second biggest issue is the number of hits that enemies take. The basic demon things take about three times as many hits as I'd expect them to, especially since they come in such large swarms. What are the things that look like power-ups? I had no idea what they were for or how to use them. On the far side of the map, I noticed tons of demons just flying right by me instead of attacking. Do they ignore me if I'm a certain distance from my side of the map? If so, that seems like it could be exploited. Bugs/Weirdness: -I'm not sure if it was a bug or not, but one demon got stuck to me at some point and I couldn't seem to hit it with any of my attacks. -I touched the right side of the screen, flew high into the air and disappeared outside the level. -Over on the left side of the level, I stood on some clouds and started sliding left for some reason. -I jumped down onto a boat and died shortly after, but I don't know how. It seems like this could be a fun game if the combat felt more fast-paced and the hits had more impact. I kinda like the art style, especially the way the "arena" looks. Thanks for that feedback yeah I felt that playing the game as well, kinda ran outta time however I will be looking to fix this over the next few weeks. Oh yeah i should put the instruction screen in prior to the game start, at the main menu if you right click instead of left click it will show you the buttons and how the power ups work, theres only one at the moment due to time constraints but the blue one is double the speed and double the damage while the other colours are health packs. Oh yeah i made them that way the idea of that is to try and draw the player away from the boat to protect the castle so they will ignore the player as designed to do. yeah they do that i thought i fixed the hitbox, its prolly still buggy -_- ill get onto that for sure though. thanks for finding that never heard of that one before I will definitely look into that. weird bug at the moment with that cant seem to find what is making the player slide. At the last minute i removed the ability to stand on the boat due to the player getting stuck to often but that will be fixed up. Thanks so much for the compliment :) really means alot when putting in alot of time for a project but will post up when ive fixed these issues thanks again. |
