Title: Changes - A game about switching colours Post by: Maliii on June 27, 2014, 10:14:20 AM (http://i.imgur.com/iBElEls.png?3) A 'Thomas was alone' inspired puzzle game. Switch from black to white and white to black. You can only navigate through the black when you are black and only navigate through white when white. Would love some feedback on this game. Made for a game jam but I'd like to continue it into a full game. http://slowpoke.itch.io/changes Title: Re: Changes - A game about switching colours Post by: CoderGamesStrikesBack on June 27, 2014, 11:24:23 AM I'm going to be honest with you, I only like puzzle games with great graphics, this looks very basic.
Title: Re: Changes - A game about switching colours Post by: Quicksand-S on June 27, 2014, 01:29:38 PM The concept works pretty well. I don't love the shade of blue being used, but it's not a big deal.
The main issue I have with it is just that it's incredibly easy. If you continue it, I hope you'll find some way to make more challenging puzzles. There are a lot of things you could do with the basic mechanics. One thing I hope you don't do is change the number of colors available. I found the limited number of changes very strange. Normally, games like this would use one of two approaches: -You always have N changes available -You can go over N changes, but you'll lose points/stars/whatever In both cases, N remains constant across levels. I don't really like that N is different in each level of your game. The only games I've seen that in are games where the player has to collect "energy" or something in order to use their ability. Anyway, it works fine as is. I just felt like that aspect of it was a bit strange. The only other "issue" I had was a strange sound that came from the music every few seconds. It's some sort of guitar-string scrape or something that shows up around 4.7s, 14.3s and a bunch of other times. For me it ruined the otherwise great music. But i liked the setting, although i get confused with the colors all the time. Neatly done, but make sure to focus on the gameplay too to make it interesting next time.
