Title: Headix 3D, hit me hard! Post by: CoderGamesStrikesBack on June 29, 2014, 04:46:06 AM http://www.codergames.com/webgames/playflash/Headix3D/
It's a free game to play, only 10 levels. It's a 3d top-side-view sort of puzzle action maze game, with a scrolling camera. You need to free your girlfriend from an evil wizard who locked her away. I don't want to explain anything related to the gameplay there are instructions inside the game, everything else you should discover on your own. If I'd reveal things now you won't be surprised and the surprise is important. The game is complete and final, as far as the Flash version is concerned, all of the bugs were fixed during past year or so, no new bugs were reported so far, but my experience with the gamers is that most of them do not report anything as they usually think it's not game related or is deliberate and for these free games I didn't look for beta testers. The game was made in a relatively short time. I'm thinking of making a PC Windows version of the game, with much better graphics, but still same gameplay. Please let me know how far you managed to get and, most importantly, please don't forget your constructive criticisms. Title: Re: Headix 3D, hit me hard! Post by: Quicksand-S on June 29, 2014, 10:35:10 AM I didn't give it a lot of time, but I may play more later. The stealth-oriented gameplay is kinda cool. I didn't expect it to be so stealth-oriented.
The controls work well. The graphics aren't terrible. I found it a bit strange that I had to stand under fruit for a while before it would actually be grabbed, but it worked all right. I wish the initial cutscene could be skipped. I didn't like it that knocking out enemies was only for score. I thought I'd be able to walk by them while they were down, but they just popped up and killed me. I don't see the point of a level-select screen that won't let me replay old levels. One huge issue that I encountered right away is that the camera is sometimes completely broken. It was swinging wildly up and down during most of the first level. Strangely, it worked fine the second time I played and I had no issues in Level 2. This is a pretty good game, from what I've seen so far. I don't know if there's any variety in the levels yet, but the basic gameplay seems solid and getting all the fruit appears to test reflexes and patience. Not bad. Title: Re: Headix 3D, hit me hard! Post by: CoderGamesStrikesBack on June 29, 2014, 10:59:52 AM I don't see the point of a level-select screen that won't let me replay old levels. The game does require a bit more time to be finished so there's a save option and the game will be saved once you quit (I think, but just in case it doesn't then click the save icon at the right bottom side). The game will resume the next time, but will show you on which level you're continuing, if I recall right. I mean, that was my intention. No no, the camera is swinging to cover more of the view for your convenience as there could be enchanted villagers coming right at you from up and/or down. Since the screen is wider I didn't want player to be handicapped as up and down areas are equally important. This is a pretty good game, from what I've seen so far. I don't know if there's any variety in the levels yet, but the basic gameplay seems solid and getting all the fruit appears to test reflexes and patience. Not bad. There is some variety, not in the graphics, but there's another type of the villager and the game becomes a bit tricky later on, so the timing and some strategic thinking are required. I would of course bring a lot of variety in the PC version of the game, but I'm not convinced that it would be something people would like to play, and spending so much time making it while there's a similar free game available already, doesn't seem like a good choice. Well, thanks for playing, it's great that you figured out what to do and managed to get to the second level, because there are, believe it or not, people who're totally incapable of figuring out what to do in the game. I just hope that there are others who will comment as well. Title: Re: Headix 3D, hit me hard! The first thing I did, though, was click on an old level to check something but it didn't work. Also, in a game with a high score table, it's probably a good idea to let people replay levels for a better score. No no, the camera is swinging to cover more of the view for your convenience as there could be enchanted villagers coming right at you from up and/or down. Since the screen is wider I didn't want player to be handicapped as up and down areas are equally important. I don't mean normal "camera moves a bit to show more of the level" swinging. I mean "up and down, even though the character isn't moving, until it almost makes me seasick" sort of swinging. If that was intentional, I'd suggest seriously reconsidering it. Making the camera move to a higher altitude in order to show the level would probably be a less nausea-inducing method. ...there are, believe it or not, people who're totally incapable of figuring out what to do in the game. Yep, I believe that. The first time I played, I had no idea what the goal was. I thought maybe I had to grab all the fruit, but I died when I went for the last piece. I think the most misleading part was that when I grabbed the key it just gave me points. It said nothing about heading for the exit, so I didn't even know there was one. The second time I played, it was because I started wondering if I'd missed an obvious door somewhere. Maybe consider a "Find the Exit" message when you get the key and possibly making the door stand out more. As it is, I feel like it looks decorative rather than functional. The first thing I did, though, was click on an old level to check something but it didn't work. Also, in a game with a high score table, it's probably a good idea to let people replay levels for a better score. No, it just saves your progress, you cannot replay the level. I didn't think of that. Well, if I ever decide to make an advanced version of the game for PC, I will make it possible for people to replay any level. I tried that way, but to show more then to get back to showing less, you would complain about that. The game is just showing you both sides since your position is undecided, you can go either up or down, it helps you make a decision. If you were placed like you want to go down it would show you down and vice versa. ...I grabbed the key it just gave me points. It said nothing about heading for the exit, so I didn't even know there was one. When there's a key there's a hole :) Maybe consider a "Find the Exit" message when you get the key and possibly making the door stand out more. As it is, I feel like it looks decorative rather than functional. Nah, I don't want stupid people playing my games. I'm so glad you figured it out, even if it was the second time LOL :biglaff: I thought watching the intro, since it starts with the gate, will hint players. Pffff, silly me. If you were placed like you want to go down it would show you down and vice versa. Yeah, like I said it normally works fine. It was only during my first attempt that the camera swung back and forth without me doing anything (ie. not changing my direction or position). When there's a key there's a hole :) Not necessarily. Puzzle Wizard, a great puzzle game that was posted in the forum a few months ago, had each level end with a key. No doors anywhere in the game. Also, having the key give the player points seemed to strongly suggest that it could be optional. Nah, I don't want stupid people playing my games...I thought watching the intro, since it starts with the gate, will hint players. Pffff, silly me. I hate watching cutscenes in games like this, so I generally skip them or ignore them almost entirely. I imagine that a lot of people do the same. We just want to get to the gameplay. The gate doesn't really mean much either. There's a big difference between the door of a cell and a gate that's part of a wall. Title: Re: Headix 3D, hit me hard! Post by: CoderGamesStrikesBack on June 29, 2014, 04:44:56 PM Some good points there. Thanks.
So the gate that is there doesn't make you feel like you want to open it and get out? Not even a tiny bit? Title: Re: Headix 3D, hit me hard! Post by: Quicksand-S on June 29, 2014, 05:10:21 PM So the gate that is there doesn't make you feel like you want to open it and get out? Not even a tiny bit? Honestly, it just doesn't stand out much so I just thought "background decor" and never looked at it again until my second attempt. Maybe that's a problem on my end. I don't know. I don't think I've ever had trouble noticing the exit in a game before, though. Title: Re: Headix 3D, hit me hard! Post by: CoderGamesStrikesBack on June 30, 2014, 08:46:44 AM Well, if we'd hear others opinions we'd know for sure. Others should suffer playing my games as well, not just you.
But seriously, is there anyone else here besides you? Title: Re: Headix 3D, hit me hard! Post by: Quicksand-S on June 30, 2014, 11:03:03 AM Well, if we'd hear others opinions we'd know for sure. So many people look at posts, but so few actually respond to them. Title: Re: Headix 3D, hit me hard! Post by: CoderGamesStrikesBack on June 30, 2014, 11:19:28 AM Phew, a bunch of trolls!
