Title: Musket Loads Post by: mrfredman on January 05, 2009, 04:16:11 PM Musket Loads is a game I made on a whim during my winter vacation. Its very short and very silly, but I hope you'll give it a try, it certainly makes me laugh every time I play.
So as not to taint the user experience, I'm not gonna tell you where I got my idea from, but just so were all clear going into this, I'm not claiming this as an original idea, its more of a tribute. Anyways heres a screenshot: (http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1139/3172393198_8eb8ac8683.jpg) And heres some download links: Musket Loads @ host-a.net (http://host-a.net/mrfredmann/Musket%20Loads.exe) Musket Loads @ mediafire.com (http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?yvjmtjdn1eu) I know some of you may be wary of downloading a lone .exe, but I assure you that its clean and untainted, the game is fresh out of gamemaker. It quickly made its way straight to a hosting site without any tampering or malicious additions so I hope you will download it and give it a try. Controls: Player 1 - A and Q Player 2 - L and P Both players - Space Credits: All art and programming/gamemakering - mrfredman Music - Synnah Feedbackwise, I'd just like to know what you guys think of it. Did I get a laugh out of you? Thats all I'm really looking for, one laugh, maybe two. Also, do you think the game would be greatly improved by adding score? I tried to add it earlier, but ran into some mysterious troubles trying to smooth out the bugs. If people really want it added, I suppose I could have another go at sorting them out, but really I'm just ready to move on. Title: Re: Musket Loads Post by: Super-Dot on January 06, 2009, 04:35:00 AM :D That was fantastic.
I think a score would detract from it. Title: Re: Musket Loads Post by: Bennett on January 07, 2009, 10:59:57 AM I'm looking forward to trying this, but I'm waiting til I have someone to play against.
Title: Re: Musket Loads Post by: mrfredman on January 07, 2009, 11:57:03 AM Yea, you can't really experience Musket Loads properly without two players.
It becomes a highly competitive button-mashing contest, and I've even had people create their own spontaneous metea-game by wrestling to prevent the other from pressing the space bar/loading their musket. This game is best played with two highly-competitive people prone to immense silliness. On other audiences it is easily overlooked. EDIT: I also just realized that from a gameplay perspective, Musket Loads is remarkably similar to Rock 'em Sock 'em Robots. I don't really have anything to say about this point, it just occurred to me so I thought I'd share. Title: Re: Musket Loads Post by: Synnah on January 09, 2009, 07:41:51 AM Woot! The music works well; I'm glad about that. Doesn't loop so good, though. Sodding MP3 format.
Title: Re: Musket Loads Post by: equalsP on January 09, 2009, 10:54:40 AM Hehe, funny :D. I think I know where it's from, well at least right when I saw the picture it reminded me about something.
The only thing I noticed is that once someone reloads the other person is left reloading forever until the space bar is pressed. I was trying to get both guys ready to fire at once, but couldn't do it. Just tried it another few times, and it's definitely working. Was it a one-off? You can only load your musket once, and once you are done loading your only option is to shoot. Once someone has fired, your only choice is to reset and play again, there really isn't anything more to it. I'm surprised you couldn't get them to both fire at once, there is an alternate kill-screen for a tie, and I worked hard to get it up and running properly, so if they are just standing there prepared to fire but they won't shoot, please let me know the specifics surrounding the bug so that I can look into it. Title: Re: Musket Loads Post by: equalsP on January 09, 2009, 11:32:20 AM Huh ... I tried it again, to get them both to fire. And it worked fine. I have no idea what happened last time. I first pump in unison, then make one get there first and the other catch up. :shrug2:
Well works great! |
