A crew of four are on a bug infested planet searching for resources. Almost as if the planet is defending itself, the bugs attack in swarms. Do what you must to survive.

2d survival platformer contained with a VN style narrative. Survive each area, collect the valuable resources and fight using the style of your choice.

My development blog originally started on Tumblr - http://dissociativemachine.tumblr.com/ (http://dissociativemachine.tumblr.com/)
I wanted my development to reach out further and perhaps gain better feedback then a simple "like" or "reblog".
I'll use here and tumblr to blog about my development. There probably won't be 100% post synergy between the two, but I'll try and keep them consistent.

Figured on this blog post, I'd give a recap on the development so far:

I'm mainly an artist and as a result have been using Construct 2. I've been devving for a while with tgf/mmf2/construct so I do have some experience.

As a 1MA I took whatever I could salvage from my failed KS/GL project from before and started on this new game that has small elements from that project. The games scope was also a lot more manageable compared to the previous disaster. With a week or two I had some terrain, some enemies, A.I. and bright bloody lasers.

Quite crude looking back then and can definitely see how RoR inspired some elements of the game.
I started breaking free from that and adding in elements that I thought would be fun such as buildings/structures, and toying with the idea of player playing how they wanted at the drop of a hat rather than the restriction of picking a class and being reliant on random dropped items.

So along with a remake on a lot of the art came in building drops.

From here I had a clear goal/idea for this game and keep going with it.

Change of art style again along with a redo from scratch on the programming. A.I. pets properly implemented.

Building animations put it with upgrades which add even more depth to gameplay.

New monsters, angled shooting, mixes in the terrain.

New biomes with different terrain changing up the gameplay even further. Putting some difficulty into some playstyles while making other easier. So you can overcome the challenges or adapt to survive them.

So right now?

Currently most of my time is focused on getting the KS together and managing the GL.
My aims are to get the funding to allow me to continue working on the art/design while I can pay a skilled user to turn this prototype into a fully functional game using GM:S. (Or if we get more than the goal, Unity.)
This allows us to do many interesting things with the game, as well as put it on Playstation platforms. (Perhaps WiiU, the building/turret/pet features would be interesting with the touch-screen.)

I'd love to answer any questions on the game so far and the future. I know I missed quite a lot out.
I will be posting new progress as it comes.
Been slowly working through cutscene/VN stuff in the background.

I think you might catch some flak from the general internet about it being a risk of rain clone. However, I can see the differences you've added and it looks generally fun. I'm not sure about the huge character portrait on the screen, might need to be smaller or it's just me. Keep at it. :handthumbsupR:

I've gotten a fair few comments accusing it of being a RoR ripoff.
Entirely inspirational in the beginning, and I personally feel it has evolved into a completely different game from those early ideas/thoughts I had. (Only real similarity I see is low resolution characters, which isn't original to RoR anyway) Perhaps it isn't obvious how the actual gameplay plays out, that might help the image issue.
I'll have an alpha soon enough.
And yeah, had a few bits of feedback about that too. I'm currently undecided on how the VN aspect will be ingame. I might incorporate it into the HUD with the characters portrait. (That doesn't stop me shrinking the portrait though when a VN moment isn't happening)  :gentleman:
Thanks for the feedback, I do appreciate it.

Launched on KS, please support however you can. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1603807202/just-another-bug-hunt (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1603807202/just-another-bug-hunt)

Will be continuing logging our development on this log throughout.
Been trying to market the game for the last few days, and probably will be marketing it for the next week+.
So development on the game itself has taken a backseat.
