Title: Duk! [GB Styled 2d Platformer] Post by: CasePortman on August 28, 2014, 08:47:14 AM ~ Duk! ~ (http://i.imgur.com/mgQI4Hz.png) (http://i.imgur.com/KR7fKGF.png) (http://i.imgur.com/GRD6jk4.png) What is 'Duk!'? Duk! is a game I started around the time the #gbjam started, in which the aim was (if you didn't catch it) to create a small game in the style of the original Gameboy Classic, using such things as limited palettes, sound, resolution etc. I started this with the intention to make it for said jam, yet this thing grew and grew into something much bigger than I anticipated. So, what do you do in the game? Well, I want to say it's just a simple 2D platformer where you advanced to the next level, which get harder and harder etc. yet there's a little more to it than that. The game is heavily based on loot and random loot at that. Loot, chests and enemies are placed randomly around the levels (which are set) and have random contents. Using the contents of each chest on other chests and enemies will or won't snowball your current collection, depending on how lucky/skilful you are. Okay, so why do I need so called 'Loot'? The progression system ingame is based on purchasing upgrades and items for the player, such as 'Stronger Arrows' or 'Double bombs' etc. This, in turn, helps you open more chests, therefore, giving more coins to buy more things/better upgrades (back to the snowball stuff). Tell me about the level layouts and all that stuff.. Each 'world' will consist of 3 levels, a bonus level and a Boss. To reach the boss level, you will need to complete and acquire an artefact at the end of each level plus have bought a boss key from the merchant in the world hub. Throughout the levels there will be chances for Sacrifice and Gamble Totems to appear, this is your chance to fill up on goodies! Here's a gif showing the a small part of gameplay: (might have to load, click here for gfycat: http://gfycat.com/KeyKindheartedFrenchbulldog) (http://giant.gfycat.com/KeyKindheartedFrenchbulldog.gif) As you can see there are also other random aspects of the game that affect gameplay and how you as a person might tackle obstacles, such as arrows. Arrows, upon impact, have a 33% chance to break (considering you don't have any arrows upgrades), so making the decision of killing an enemy and maybe getting a heart that you need vs. destroying a vase for a chance to get a key (to use on that chest you saw a little ways back) can be a tough one. |
