Edit: If you need a DirectX update, I recommend just downloading and installing the latest version of Construct from http://www.scirra.com/ which will automatically update DirectX with what you need in order to play this game.

I can't believe this wound up being my first completed game/interactiveprogramofweirdnessandstupidity. :-X Here's where you can download it: CLICKY THIS LINKY (http://gamejolt.com/freeware/games/other/ugh/92/)

This game was made with Construct, therefore it requires DirectX, Windows, and all that stuff... So like, if it doesn't work, I don't know what to tell ya. I'm lame like that (but maybe someone else who knows more will be able to help out).

Anyway... Time for a readme copy/paste! YES!

- Ugh 1.01

Edit: I think I fixed the only known bug in this version... Hopefully. You should no
longer have to press R when the guy first comes on screen for the game to work
properly. ;)

Hey, thanks for trying out my first stupid completed game ever! If you can call
it a game. I was listening to my oldest sister talking about people and stuff one night,
and then this idea came, so whatever.

- What's happening?

Anyway, in this game, you're trying to help some drunk dude get to the trashcan in
time to vomit. If he doesn't make it, well... I'm sure you can guess what'll happen.
(I didn't make it TOO gross, don't worry.)

- Controls?

Press Esc to exit the program.
Press Enter at the title screen to play the game.
Use the arrow keys to help the man get to the trashcan.
If you lose, or just feel like starting over again, press R to restart.

- What should I avoid?

Press the arrows that appear at the bottom of the screen.
If you press the wrong arrow, or the meter directly below the displayed arrow runs
out, you will lose one health point.
The meter lasts for one second; should be more than enough time if you just relax. :)
For every ten correct arrow keys you press, the man will move one step forward.

- Last thoughts and comments~

Thanks goes to both my sisters for motivation! Thanks to anyone who tries this out,
even if they wind up hating it, which wouldn't surprise me in the least! Thanks to the
Doctor for SFXR and Musagi! Thanks to the creators of Construct (Keep up the great work
guys!)!
Hope this little game doesn't offend anyone. It was purposely made to look kind of
barfy and yuck, so try not to judge my graphic skills based on this silly little thing.

I think that's everything...
Oh...
Everything in this game was put together by Knite (aka KniteBlargh, T. Gantt, and
knitetgantt).

Hello there!

Can't really try it out right now, but a couple of things:

The name Ugh! is already taken (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ugh!). It's a great oldie and I recommend it! I would suggest maybe Barf! as a name.

It looks like an original gameboy game, which is great! Apart from not playing, I do have a suggestion. Instead of health bars, if the game is about throwing up, why not have something more thematic? Like a stomach filling up with bubbly goo? When it reaches the top, you vomit :)

Congratulations for making a game!

I love the art. The mixed resolutions are cool and the palette is really... fitting ;)

Gameplay seems smooth, but it would be more fun if you could see the character lose his balance when the arrows appear, and see how pushing the arrows get him on his feet again.

Hey, thanks for the suggestion! However, I think I'll keep it the way it is simply because this is "Ugh" not "Ugh!", and mine is pronounced "Uh..." whereas I'm presuming "Ugh!" is pronounced "Ugg!" by the looks of the game. xD
I love your suggestion for the stomach meter; thank you very much! :)

Oh! I like that. I'll have to add that special little touch in the next version (if I get the chance of course). Thanks a lot man!

Ugh thats awesome
:D Thanks!

I'd like to add that originally, upon winning, the animation had barf shooting out like a shotgun. That's how my sister wanted me to make it... :wtf: But I had to change it to something a lot less revolting since it literally made me feel sick. Seriously, it had chunks and stuff; you wouldn't want to see it. (we need an "I see dead people..." face)

Not that it matters much for such a small project, but you can now download a new version with a bug fix. You shouldn't have to press R when the guy first walks on screen to make it work properly now.
Also, I've added a soundless version since a friend of mine couldn't get past the title screen (I'm assuming it had to do with sound since there's a sound that plays as soon as the man starts walking on-screen).

You can find these two new versions at the same link posted above.

heheh; it took me three tries to realize that it wasn't a platformer. I...liked it...I think you could quite nicely extend it if you felt inclined.  The lack of fullscreen mode is conspicuous.

Thank you. :) Yeah, I haven't really figured out the tricks of getting fullscreen mode to work the way I want it to in Construct yet. Once I figure it out though, I'll try to do something about it.

Two tries, five minutes getting/playing. Time well spent.

I've been playing Shenmue recently so I guess I was well prepared, it was fun though.
Also, I played this game in RL last saturday, haha, ha, I lost, oh boy.

Thanks. I'm sorry you had that experience though. :concerned:
