Title: Multiplayer online indie games Post by: Levin on February 04, 2009, 04:59:38 AM Hi, dudes.
Can you suggest me some good multiplayer online indie games? I'm looking for action/sport/strategy games like Gunbound and Albatross18 or MMOG as well. Thank you ^_^ Title: Re: Multiplayer online indie games Post by: battlerager on February 04, 2009, 05:21:28 AM Well, theres Teeworlds. :durr:

Title: Re: Multiplayer online indie games Post by: ஒழுக்கின்மை on February 04, 2009, 03:27:47 PM Dofus is a nice indie MMORPG, although that's only borderline indie -- it has a huge team with like a dozen or two artists. But it was created without much funding by only a few people, even though it's big now.
Title: Re: Multiplayer online indie games Post by: MisterX on February 04, 2009, 03:51:54 PM One of those "Free2Play" MMORPGs that seems to stick out of the crowd is Runes of Magic (http://www.runesofmagic.com), as it's apparently an exceptionally good clone of World of Warcraft for being absolutely free. Even the stuff you can buy is mostly nothing important, as far as I've heard.
I have yet to find even a costly "big" MMORPG that motivates me, so I'm not quite interested in the free ones, but if that's you're cup of tea RoM might well be worth a try. Oh and Richard Garriott's Tabula Rasa (http://eu.playtr.com/en/) can still be played for free until about the end of the month, when the servers will be shut down for good. I've tried it for two days and after the novelty of shooter-mechanics in an MMORPG wears off it feels like another typically boring MMORPG. But well, again, others might like it. Hedgewars. Watching a trailer for the game, it looks.. copyright-infringing?Title: Re: Multiplayer online indie games Post by: aeiowu on February 07, 2009, 09:06:15 AM I'm looking for action/sport/strategy games like Gunbound and Albatross18 or MMOG as well. you might like our game Dinowaurs (http://kongregate.com/games/intuition/dinowaurs-beta) it's still in beta, but pretty playable for the most part. It's like real-time gunbound with some strategy elements. Title: Re: Multiplayer online indie games Post by: shig on February 07, 2009, 09:12:44 AM Gang Garrison anyone?
Title: Re: Multiplayer online indie games Post by: Tanner on February 07, 2009, 10:14:10 AM A New Zero and Golf? are also excellent.
Title: Re: Multiplayer online indie games Post by: Valter on February 07, 2009, 10:46:39 AM Battle For Wesnoth. Good times.
Title: Re: Multiplayer online indie games Post by: ஒழுக்கின்மை on February 07, 2009, 04:22:47 PM Multiwinia, too.
Title: Re: Multiplayer online indie games Post by: george on February 07, 2009, 05:26:58 PM Army of Earth still brings me back after six months or so. Free during beta -- kind of a FPS/RTS, up to six teams, PG maps. Graphics are simple but it's a fun drop-in game.
Title: Re: Multiplayer online indie games Post by: TheBlackMask on February 08, 2009, 02:25:25 PM I wanted to try Army of Earth so badly, but it will never run on my comp.
Title: Re: Multiplayer online indie games Post by: nihilocrat on February 08, 2009, 03:25:44 PM Wurm Online is a fairly fascinating indie MMO.
Title: Re: Multiplayer online indie games Post by: Tanner on February 08, 2009, 04:10:03 PM I wanted to try Army of Earth so badly, but it will never run on my comp. I can tell you right now that it will. You could run it on a microwave. Also, BZFlag is an oldie but goodie. Title: Re: Multiplayer online indie games Post by: TheBlackMask on February 08, 2009, 04:57:05 PM It's actually not a system requirements issue...for some reason I could get it installed and everything, and when I would go to launch it it would crash at launch. I reinstalled it once before deciding not to spend anymore time on it.
Title: Re: Multiplayer online indie games Post by: Moth on February 08, 2009, 07:24:21 PM Gang Garrison anyone? Gang Garrison is awesome. It's actually how I stumbled upon TIGsource for the first time. Jumper Redux has netplay, which is kind of like an exercise of group masochism. It's pretty satisfying to linger at the end of stages and watch your friends constantly fail to get past a level you got past, whenever you do manage to get ahead of the rest. Title: Re: Multiplayer online indie games Post by: Duckmeister on February 10, 2009, 11:03:41 AM Sad that it has to be ONLINE multiplayer...
Right now, the games I have are: Toribash (can't believe anyone hasn't said that yet, or has it lost it's "indie" status) Smokin' Guns Urban Terror (another q3 mod, runs on ioq3 just like SG, and is just as awesome) Gang Garrison 2 (2.0 is t3h awesome) Soldat A New Zero (0.74 is WAY better than the 0.71 reviewed by TIGS) and finally... ARMAGETRON ADVANCED Seriously, can't believe anyone hasn't said this one, it's practically fallen off the face of the earth, although a TON of folks still play it online. Also, I've heard some pretty good things about AntRush, haven't tried it just yet. And I really have no idea how golf? works, I thought it was netplay, and what's this whole "account" thing? WHERE IS A README? Title: Re: Multiplayer online indie games Post by: Waltorious on February 10, 2009, 12:48:10 PM I had a lot of fun playing Savage a while back... it's an FPS / RTS hybrid where one player is the commander telling troops where to go, what to build, and who to fight, and the other players are the troops themselves. It's free, and apparently the sequel is now also free, but I haven't played that. I think I heard it wasn't as well balanced or something.
You can find the first game here: http://www.s2games.com/savage/downloads.php Hopefully there are still a good number of people playing it. Title: Re: Multiplayer online indie games Post by: J.W. BLOCKLAND! www.blockland.us Man, you just have to see this, I'm not even gonna describe it. Title: Re: Multiplayer online indie games Post by: Fech on February 12, 2009, 04:17:12 PM LieroX?
Title: Re: Multiplayer online indie games Post by: Fuzz on February 14, 2009, 04:09:42 PM LieroX? I've only played original Liero. How does Lierox compare?Title: Re: Multiplayer online indie games Post by: shig on February 14, 2009, 06:05:36 PM I can't find a working download link for LieroX and I've been trying for a good 15 minutes.
Title: Re: Multiplayer online indie games Post by: Fuzz on February 14, 2009, 06:06:34 PM I can't find a working download link for LieroX and I've been trying for a good 15 minutes. I just downloaded it and haven't played it yet, but this link seemed to work- http://sourceforge.net/project/downloading.php?groupname=openlierox&filename=OpenLieroX_0.57_beta8.win32.zip&use_mirror=voxel (http://sourceforge.net/project/downloading.php?groupname=openlierox&filename=OpenLieroX_0.57_beta8.win32.zip&use_mirror=voxel)Title: Re: Multiplayer online indie games Post by: Fuzz on February 14, 2009, 11:12:21 PM Just tried LieroX, and it really angers me. I really hate the new, annoying graphics and the huge changes to the physics and it overall just annoys me.
Title: Re: Multiplayer online indie games Post by: SelfTitled on February 16, 2009, 05:36:27 AM There was a indie games podcast not so long ago that mentioned an mmo, Domain of Heroes. I haven't played it myself but it's supposed to be played via a browser I think.

Apparently, award-winning too! It is a fast-paced but extremely tactical game. It pits two teams against each other over a futuristic battlefield with plenty of obstacles.
I'm not going to describe it much, as I don't think I can. Please just visit the link, and give it a chance. At $10 over at Steam, there's no reason not to give it a try. It even has a demo! Title: Re: Multiplayer online indie games Post by: Chman on February 22, 2009, 09:34:28 AM Dofus is a nice indie MMORPG, although that's only borderline indie -- it has a huge team with like a dozen or two artists. But it was created without much funding by only a few people, even though it's big now. Well, I have to disagree with that as being part of the Dofus/Dofus 2 team. It started as a small project for fun, sure, but it rapidly grew into a "mainstream" mmo. It's not indie anymore and basically never was strictly speaking (Ankama's never been an "independant" group as in "independant games").And speaking about Dofus staff, you can count full time artists on one hand. Actually, the whole team doesn't exceed twenty people ;) Title: Re: Multiplayer online indie games Post by: WinGamer33 on April 10, 2011, 07:25:14 AM I recommend you Tower Commodore rts. It's online and free, though you might want to watch this tutorial video:

Indeed (link (http://www.ganggarrison.com/)). It's better than TF2 itself :gentleman:Title: Re: Multiplayer online indie games Post by: FK in the Coffee on April 10, 2011, 11:14:49 AM Masjin (http://forums.tigsource.com/index.php?topic=18908.0) ;)
