It's a one-off for me, and I'm keeping it so  :handmetalR:. I don't like it when people change both their avatar and their nick and don't leave a note to say who they were (moi, imp, looking at you guys). And the fake real names are annoying.

I figured I'd switch my name, as I'd learned the names of others. Felt it was owed. I'll re-Gainsworthy, though. Eventually.

Maybe I'll change my name to my real name and stick with it. Although I do love being a poser.

Also, don't you recognise people by avatar, it took me a while to realise that people were changing their names, since I didn't look at the name field for a while.

It's weird being called Joaquim, since nobody really calls me Joaquim, it's just Quim, like all Roberts are called Bob.
I will eventually drop it, but I think people here know me more from my avatar instead of my name so it doesn't really make a difference

bad is that some people keep changing avatars while others keep changing names. But I have hope that it finally settles, and we can learn again who is who.

I changed the avatar pretty recently, and I don't really think about getting recognised on forums, to be honest. It's mainly me recognising others.

I've found that Avatar "motifs" work well. Annabelle always has those awesome pixel portraits. I try to keep dolphins or other nautical life-forms in my avatars. It's easier to identify as a whole.

YES! If you're going to change, motifs are sweet. Maybe I'll get around to modding my Rupicola one day.

I usually have something tophat related in my avatars. I swear that has nothing to do with the whole tophat and monocle meme thing, though. I've been identified with Tophats way before I found this community and learned about it.

Again, a mod has my real name as their username.(The same situation is true of my brother)

I think it's fine as long as you don't change your avatars and write your nicknames somewhere in your sig or personal text for good measure.

I don't get why the fuck you're so upset about people using their own names. I switched up my name because I actually prefer it to a silly internet name. I'm not changing it just because you think it's some kind of 'meme.'

I'm with Chris. I didn't change my name because it was trendy. I just like to use my real name when I release games, and I want people to associate me with them. It's more professional that way. Plus, I've had my old online name since I was twelve, and I've outgrown it.

And also, Soulliard just sounds super cool.

I did it before it was trendy, and then came here and felt awkward because nobody else on the internet did it, so I just went by my first name.  Then you guys decided to go and make it feel awkward again by going by your full names.

To fully understand the implications of being indie, one must first compare and contrast "indie" with everything else. Only then can we really understand what the word indie means. Either way, what is and isn't indie is completely subjective, so I would like to point out that this discussion has no meaning. Even so, I would like to let you know what indie REALLY is. I changed my name because I wasn't sure why I had a nickname. I have a long and storied history of just going by Erin Gardien or any of several pretty-sounding pseudonyms. Qelippot felt more like I was trying to advertise my game since it was exactly 2 letters off.

And that felt wrong.

So I use my real name and I'm not going to change it back. I doubt it even confused anyone, I haven't been here that long or done much notable.

Yeah, now that everyone else is going by their real names, I feel pressured to go by my real name.  Which is Lord_Ragnarok66, btw.

I didn't know we're allowed to change our usernames through CP before I saw Dock's topic.

In any case, my old user-name (mirosurabu, which you can see on my avatar) was just a Japanese pronunciation of my real name (Miroslav).

CP has so many mysterious properties and abilities. Who knew?

I changed my name because 'superflat' was never intended as my handle - it's the name of my game company, which contains more than one person.  Besides I've used the handle 'Sonic' my whole life, as that's my DJ / producer name in the drum'n'bass scene.  And it's kind of refreshing to throw off the web anonymity!
