Title: Using music from public doman film
Post by: Ivan on February 27, 2009, 01:38:40 AM
Is it legal to use the music from a film that is now under public domain (1927 film, copyright never renewed) for a non-commercial game? I can't find anything specific about that.

Is there a reason why the copyright for the music should last longer than the copyright for the movie? I have no idea really ...

music and movies are covered by the same copyright, I think.  In europe it's less lengthy than in america; I was planning on using some WW2 propaganda music for a game recently, but decided against it/put it on hold.

If the movie is PD, that includes the movie's audio.
